5 1. NEROT -LIGHT OF THE WORLD
Passover holiday candles are lit by the (eldest) woman of the house. After kindling the candle, she waves her hands over the flames three times (as if welcoming in the holiday), and covering her eyes with her hands (so as not to see the candles burning) says: “Barukh attah Adonai eloheinu melekh ha-olam,
asher kideshanu bemitzvotav ve-tsivanu lehiyot or
le-goyim v'natan-lanu et Yeshua Meshicheinu or ha-olam.”

6 PLEASE LIGHT YOUR CANDLE AND RECITE THE FOLLOWING:
“Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe,
who sanctified us with his commandments, and commanded us to be a light to the nations
and who gave to us Jesus our Messiah
the Light of the world.”

7 The Four Cups of used in the Seder symbolize four distinct promises made by God as told in Exodus 6:6-7. These are traditionally referred to as follows: 1. ‘bring you out’ (sanctification) 2. ‘free you from being slaves’ (deliverance) 3. ‘redeem you’ (redemption) 4. ‘I will take you as my people’ (restoration)

8 2. KADESH – SANCTIFYING THE CUPS
Once the head of the table cries out: "Kadesh!” we fill our first cup with juice. Then recite the following traditional blessing: "Blessed art Thou, LORD our God, King of the universe, Creator of the fruit of the vine."

9 Please listen from to this reading from the Haggadah:
"Blessed are You, Adonai our God, King of the Universe, who chose us from all peoples and exalted us from all tongues, and sanctified us with His commandments. And You gave to us, Lord our God, with love appointed times for gladness, festivals and times for joy, the day of this festival of Matzah, the time of our freedom, a holy convocation, a memorial of the exodus from Egypt. For you chose us and sanctified us from all the nations and the festivals of your holiness in gladness and in joy you gave us a heritage. Blessed are You, Adonai, who sanctifies Israel and the seasons."

10 The Shehecheyanu Blessing
"Blessed art thou, Lord our God, Master of the universe, who has kept us alive and sustained us and has brought us to this special time.” Please take the first cup and drink while leaning to the left.

11 3. URCHATZ WASHING THE HANDS
Table leader calls out, "U'rchatz!”

Each person at the table is to take water pitcher and pour some over your right hand three times, then over your left hand three times (Have bowl underneath). It is customary for the youngest to present the towel to each person as they perform the ritual.

12 4. KARPAS DIPPING THE VEGETABLES
*The vegetable symbolizes the lowly origins of the Jewish people; the salt water symbolizes the tears shed as a result of our slavery.

13 Table leader calls out, "Karpas
Table leader calls out, "Karpas!" and then everyone present will recite the following blessing before dipping the parsley in salt water and eating: "Blessed art thou, Lord our God, Master of the universe,
Creator of the fruit of the earth.”

14 5. YACHATZ BREAKING THE MATZAH
TABLE LEADER takes linen cloth(called a matzah tosh) and shows three matzot to all. Then table leader says: "This is the lechem oni - the bread of affliction - which our forefathers ate in the land of Egypt. All who are hungry--let them come and eat. All who are needy--let them come and celebrate the Passover with us...."

15 Table leader takes the middle piece, calls out "Yachatz," and breaks it in half. He then takes the larger piece (called the afikomen) and carefully places it in the large ziploc bag. The leader will then tell the youngest person present(at table) to close their eyes and then they will hide the afikomen somewhere in the room.

16 Please fill your second cup

17 6. MAGGID THE PASSOVER STORY

18 PLEASE HAVE SOMEONE AT YOUR TABLE ASK THESE QUESTIONS:

19 Why is it that on all other nights during the year we eat either bread or matzah, but on this night we eat only matzah? A:  Matzah reminds us that when the Jews left Egypt, they had no time to bake their bread, but took raw dough and baked it (in the desert son) into crackers.

20 Why is it that on all other nights we eat all kinds of herbs,
but on this night we eat only bitter herbs? A:  Maror reminds us of the bitter and cruel way the Pharaoh treated the Jewish people as slaves in Egypt.

21 Why is it that on all other nights we do not dip our herbs even once,
but on this night we dip them twice? A:  We dip bitter herbs into Charoset to remind us of the bitterness of our slavery. The chopped apples and nuts look like clay used to make bricks for Pharaoh's buildings. We did parsely in salt water to remember the tears of our captivity.

22 Why is it on all other nights we eat either sitting or reclining, but on this night we lean our head to the left? A:  We lean on our pillows to remind us that we are now free and no longer live as slaves.

23

24 We drink four cups of wine to remember four things God will do: 1
We drink four cups of wine to remember four things God will do: 1. bring you out 2. free you from being slaves 3. redeem you 4. I will take you as my people

25 PLEASE DRINK THE SECOND CUP
This second cup commemorates the loving deliverance of the LORD from our bondage in Egypt (and of our personal bondage to the evil one, represented by Pharaoh). We give heartfelt thanks to God for His saving acts and glorious power as we drink.

26 7. RACHTZAH The ritual of netilat yadayim is actually a "ceremonial" cleansing. Pour the water three times on each hand - right, left, right, left, right, left (have bowl underneath). After "washing" the hands, they are clasped together and the blessing is recited.

27 Blessed art thou, Lord our God, Master of the universe,
who hast sanctified us with thy commandments, and commanded us
about washing the hands.

28 8.MOTZI MATZAH EATING THE MATZA
Table leader then takes three matzot (with the broken one in the middle), lifts them up for all to see, and table recites blessing: “Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe, Who sanctified us with his commandments, and commanded us to eat matzah.”

29 Matzot is distributed and everyone eats the portion given to them.

30 9. MAROR EATING THE BITTER HERBS
Take some romaine lettuce and load it with some horseradish. The following blessing is recited by all: “Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe, Who sanctified us with his commandments and commanded us to eat maror.” *We then eat the bitter herbs, remembering the sorrow, persecution, and suffering of our life in bondage. As the horseradish brings tears to our eyes, so we remember the affliction of our people.

31 10. KORECH THE HILLEL SANDWICH
Hillel, the rabbi who lived in Jerusalem during the time of King Herod, invented the "Hillel sandwich," a combination of the three elements given in the biblical command: They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it. (Ex. 12:8)

32 Take some matzah and smear some maror (horseradish) on one end and some charoset(chopped apples) on the other. We then top off the matzah with another piece. When we eat, we begin with the bitter side and move to the sweet side, reminding us that though our slavery was indeed bitter, our redemption is sweeter still...

33 11. SHULCHAN ORECH It is tradition to eat a roasted egg dipped in salt water to remember the crossing of the red sea. Please choose someone at your table to do so.

34 The following blessing would be recited before eating the Passover lamb:   Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe, Who sanctified us
with his commandments and commanded us to eat the Pesach.

35 TIME TO EAT (you may eat lamb at table) Tribes are dismissed to go get food from oldest brother(tribe) first to youngest brother(tribe) *use Genesis 46 if you need to figure it out

36 *youngest at your table are encouraged to search for the Afikomen

37 12. TZAFUN EATING THE AFIKOMEN
Table leader unpacks Afikomen and breaks it into small portions so that everyone present may partake of it after blessing is read. *Jesus used the symbol of the Afikomen to represent His body that was broken for the sins of the world.

38 During Jesus' early Seder with His disciples, He broke the Afikomen and gave each one present a piece. "And when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, 'This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me'" (Matt 26:26). "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh" (John 6:51).

39 RECITE BLESSING: Blessed art Thou, LORD our God, King of the universe,
who brings forth the True Bread from Heaven *Please eat the Afikomen

40 13. BARECH BLESSING AFTER THE MEAL
PLEASE POUR THIRD CUP (CUP OF REDEMPTION) "Blessed art Thou, LORD our God, King of the universe, Creator of the fruit of the vine.” "This cup is the New Covenant in my blood, which is shed for you" (Matt. 26:27-39). “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” (Rev. 5:12)

41 PLEASE DRINK

42 14. HALLEL SONGS OF PRAISE We pour the fourth cup of wine and recite portions of the Hallel prayer, praising the LORD for His kindness and grace to us: Jesus told his disciples that He would not drink the fourth cup but promised to do so with them in the coming Kingdom (Matt. 26:29),

43 We now lift our cups and recite the blessing:
"Blessed art Thou, LORD our God, King of the universe, Creator of the fruit of the vine.”

44 “I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation
“I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
This is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

45 15. NIRTZAH CONCLUSION RECITE TOGETHER: Leshanah haba'ah bi-yerushalayim! - "Next year in Jerusalem!"

46 WHAT ABOUT THE FIFTH CUP?
The fifth cup is the cup of wrath. Jeremiah 25:15-16 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it. When they drink it, they will stagger and go mad because of the sword I will send among them.” Luke 22:41-44 Why was Jesus in anguish?

47 Luke 22:41-44 Why was Jesus in anguish
Luke 22:41-44 Why was Jesus in anguish? “He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.

48 "The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace."
