Division In Christ you have a calling 1:3 – 3:21

Narrative 1:3-14 It is in Christ that we have all our spiritual blessings, & have been chosen and predestined to bring praise to the glory of His grace. 1:15-23 so it is my prayer that you would have the heart and mind to be able to experience your calling in Christ. 2:1-10 Remember, you were once separated from Christ, but by grace you have been brought near so that you can display that grace to others. This is what you were “created in Christ Jesus” for. 2:11-22 You were separate, without any hope, but you have now been made fellow-citizens and a temple fitted together where God can dwell. 3:1-13 I was made an apostle to tell all of this new dispensation

Narrative 3:14-21 For this reason I am asking God that you will have strength to let Christ dwell in your hearts by faith (implied - long enough) so that you can apprehend all you need to experience the fullness of God. 4:1 Therefore, walk worthy of this calling with which you have been called. 4:2-6 With love and humility seek to keep the unity that God wants us to have in our oneness. 4:7-16 Use the gifts that Christ, in grace, has given us to extend grace to one another to build each other up into the fullness of Christ. 4:17-19 Don’t walk as the Gentiles walk.

Narrative 4:20-24 Instead, remember what you learned about Christ, and put off that old self and put on the new. 4:25-32 And here are some examples of what it would mean to live like that. 5:1-2 Imitate God and walk in love even as Christ loved us and paid a price for us. 5:3-7 Don’t live in the darkness of your lusts. 5:8-14 Walk in the Light instead repudiating those things of darkness. 5:15-20 Walk wisely, using your time well to accomplish the will of the Lord. 5:21-6:9 Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ in all your relationships.

Narrative 6:10-6:18 Finally, put on your understanding of the gospel like armor, so that you can stand in the fight, asking God to help you and all his saints. 6:21-22 Everything else about what is happening with me, Tychicus will let you know when he comes. 6:23-24 Peace, love, faith, and grace from God to you all.

The central organizing theological idea in Ephesians is that through Christ’s atoning work God has mightily brought about the church—a new humanity, i.e., the unification of Jew and Gentile in one new man—for the praise of His glory and as a testimony to the principalities and powers of His multi-colored wisdom.
