I wouldn't let my dear Savior in Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night Praise the Lord, I saw the light

4 I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, No more night Now I'm so happy, No sorrow in sight Praise the Lord I saw the light

5 Just like the blind man I wandered along
Worries and fears I claimed for my own Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight Praise the Lord I saw the light

6 I saw the light, I saw the light

8 John 9:1-17 “1As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." 6 Having said these things, he spat on the ground and

9 made mud with the saliva
made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man's eyes with the mud 7 and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing. 8 The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, "Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?" 9 Some said, "It is he." Others said, "No, but he is like him." He kept saying, "I am the man." 10 So they said to him, "Then how were your eyes opened?" 11 He answered, "The man called Jesus made mud and

10 anointed my eyes and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash
anointed my eyes and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed and received my sight." 12 They said to him, "Where is he?" He said, "I do not know." 13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind. 14 Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. 15 So the Pharisees again asked him how he had received his sight. And he said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I see." 16 Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does

11 not keep the Sabbath." But others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.” John 9:1-17

19 There’s something OUT OF THE ORDINARY about the healing of this blind man.

21 There’s something OUT OF THE ORDINARY about the healing of this blind man.
Jesus spat into the dirt, and he made a mud paste which He applied to the blind man’s eyes.. John 9:7 “7 and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.

22 Jesus healed most by touching or…

23 This SIGN served the same purposes as our road signs:
a “Stop” sign a “Yield” sign a “Speed Limit” sign…

24 FIRST, JESUS USED THIS SIGN to make a BOLD DECLARATION….

27 John the Baptist is in jail and his future is unknown…
Are you the Messiah?

28 Matthew 11:4-5 “4 And Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have GOOD NEWS PREACHED TO THEM.”

29 Why was that important?

30 Why was that important? Isaiah 35:5-6 “5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6 then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy.”

31 from the prison those who sit in darkness.”
Isaiah 42:7 “7 to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.”

32 Put these 2 texts together as Jesus did, and you have:
blind see… lame walk… deaf hear… dead are raised… poor have the GOOD NEWS PREACHED TO THEM…

33 It is OBVIOUS that the blind man IS THIS SIGN. He tells the Pharisees:

34 It is OBVIOUS that the blind man IS THIS SIGN. He tells the Pharisees:
John 9:32-33 “32 Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

35 This healing is interesting in that:
this blind man did not ask to be healed. He was just sitting there by the side of the road.

36 This healing is interesting in that:
this blind man did not ask to be healed. He was just sitting there by the side of the road. John 9:1, “1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.

38 This healing is interesting in that:
this blind man did not ask to be healed. He was just sitting there by the side of the road. John 9:1, “1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. the Blind Man is just sitting there, begging by the side of the road. He doesn’t say anything/ doesn’t ask for anything… when he is healed - this man is so excited about Jesus that the Pharisees can’t shut him up!

39 How do the Pharisees respond to this blind man seeing?

40 How do the Pharisees respond to this blind man seeing?
they’re furious that Jesus had healed him … on the Sabbath!

41 How do the Pharisees respond to this blind man seeing?
they’re furious that Jesus had healed him … on the Sabbath! the Pharisees ask the blind man, ‘What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?’ John 9:17, “He said, ‘He is a prophet.”

42 How do the Pharisees respond to this blind man seeing?
they’re furious that Jesus had healed him … on the Sabbath! the Pharisees ask the blind man, ‘What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?’ John 9:17, “He said, ‘He is a prophet.” WELL, that wasn’t what they wanted to hear.

43 John 9:34 “34 They answered him, "You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?" And they cast him out.”

44 John 9:34 “34 They answered him, "You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?" And they cast him out.”

45 John 9:34 “34 They answered him, "You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?" And they cast him out.” In their anger they’re a little premature…

46 John 9:24-27 “24 So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner." 25 He answered, "Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see." 26 They said to him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?" 27 He answered them, "I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?”

47 Maybe he’s totally innocent, or maybe by his last comment, he’s having a little fun with them…

48 This blind man is so excited about Jesus:
he DOESN’T CARE what they think…

49 This blind man is so excited about Jesus:
he DOESN’T CARE what they think… he doesn’t care what they can do to him…

50 This blind man is so excited about Jesus:
he DOESN’T CARE what they think… he doesn’t care what they can do to him… ONLY ONE THING MATTERS --- “I was blind, but now I can see.”

51 The SECOND REASON JESUS SENT this man to the pool of Siloam was to send A SIGN TO THE PHARISEES…

52 The SECOND REASON JESUS SENT this man to the pool of Siloam was to send A SIGN TO THE PHARISEES…
He could not have found a better place to get THEIR ATTENTION….

53

54 John 9: 8-9 “8 The neighbors and those who had seen him before as A BEGGAR were saying, "Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?" 9 Some said, "It is he." Others said, "No, but he is like him." He kept saying, "I am the man."

55 Someone knew who the blind man was!

56 Someone knew who the blind man was!
John 9:13 “13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind.”

57 Jesus could have healed this man on any day of the week, but He chose the Sabbath.

58 Jesus could have healed this man on any day of the week, but He chose the Sabbath.
The fact that Jesus performed several of His miracles on the Sabbath was another SIGN.

59

60 Jesus SEES the Pharisees as:
VAIN… SELF-CENTERED… SELF-RIGHTEOUS…

61 Jesus HEALED on the SABBATH every time He got a chance. WHY?

62 Jesus HEALED on the SABBATH every time He got a chance. WHY?
Have you ever seen a bull fight?

63 Jesus HEALED on the SABBATH every time He got a chance. WHY?
Have you ever seen a bull fight? Did you ever notice how the bull fighter takes those sharp sticks….

64 Jesus HEALED on the SABBATH every time He got a chance. WHY?
Have you ever seen a bull fight? Did you ever notice how the bull fighter takes those sharp sticks…. That’s exactly what Jesus has been doing with the Pharisees…

65 Jesus is setting up these VAIN men to fulfill prophecy
Jesus is setting up these VAIN men to fulfill prophecy!! They’re going to be the ones who will:

66 Jesus is setting up these VAIN men to fulfill prophecy
Jesus is setting up these VAIN men to fulfill prophecy!! They’re going to be the ones who will: LIE.. SCHEME… SHOUT “CRUCIFIY HIM!”… Their ANGER has to get OUT OF CONTROL…

67 Jesus is setting up these VAIN men to fulfill prophecy
Jesus is setting up these VAIN men to fulfill prophecy!! They’re going to be the ones who will: LIE.. SCHEME… SHOUT “CRUCIFIY HIM!”… Their ANGER has to get OUT OF CONTROL… Their ROLE is critical, but they have to be ANGRY ENOUGH to do exactly what God saw them doing BEFORE TIME BEGAN.

68 The THIRD reason Jesus told the man to go to the Pool of Siloam was that he needed to get the Pharisees’ attention so they would CAREFULLY EXAMINE HIS MIRACLE.

69 The THIRD reason Jesus told the man to go to the Pool of Siloam was that he needed to get the Pharisees’ attention so they would CAREFULLY EXAMINE HIS MIRACLE. These men WOULD DO ANYTHING to discredit JESUS.

70 The THIRD reason Jesus told the man to go to the Pool of Siloam was that he needed to get the Pharisees’ attention so they would CAREFULLY EXAMINE HIS MIRACLE. These men WOULD DO ANYTHING to discredit JESUS. They call: the blind man twice… his parents to testify…

71 The end result : UNDENIABLE PROOF that this MIRACLE WAS PERFORMED.

72 The end result : UNDENIABLE PROOF that this MIRACLE WAS PERFORMED.
They didn’t try to DENY THE MIRACLE.

73 The end result : UNDENIABLE PROOF that this MIRACLE WAS PERFORMED.
They didn’t try to DENY THE MIRACLE. John 9:16 “16 Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." But others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.”

74

75 They still REJECTED Jesus, but since they COULDN’T DISCREDIT HIM they justified their rejection by saying:

76 They still REJECTED Jesus, but since they COULDN’T DISCREDIT HIM they justified their rejection by saying: WE KNOW this man is a sinner…

77 They still REJECTED Jesus, but since they COULDN’T DISCREDIT HIM they justified their rejection by saying: WE KNOW this man is a sinner… We KNOW he’s a sinner because he healed on the Sabbath…

78 They still REJECTED Jesus, but since they COULDN’T DISCREDIT HIM they justified their rejection by saying: WE KNOW this man is a sinner… We KNOW he’s a sinner because he healed on the Sabbath… WE KNOW that God does not listen to sinners John 9:31…

79 They still REJECTED Jesus, but since they COULDN’T DISCREDIT HIM they justified their rejection by saying: WE KNOW this man is a sinner… We KNOW he’s a sinner because he healed on the Sabbath… WE KNOW that God does not listen to sinners John 9:31… WE KNOW/DO NOT KNOW where he comes from.” John 9:29…

80 They still REJECTED Jesus, but since they COULDN’T DISCREDIT HIM they justified their rejection by saying: WE KNOW this man is a sinner… We KNOW he’s a sinner because he healed on the Sabbath… WE KNOW that God does not listen to sinners John 9:31… WE KNOW/DO NOT KNOW where he comes from.” John 9:29… THE EXCUSE for not listening to Jesus… because they KNOW stuff.

81 now this man was blind… the Pharisees weren’t…

82 now this man was blind… the Pharisees weren’t… yet their blindness was worse than his…

83 John 9:35-41 “35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" 36 He answered, "And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?" 37 Jesus said to him, "You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you." 38 He said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him. 39 Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind." 40 Some of the Pharisees near him heard these

84 things, and said to him, "Are we also blind
things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?" 41 Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘WE SEE,' your guilt remains.”

85 Being physically blind is hard.
But being blind to JESUS is far worse.

86 Being physically blind is hard.
But being blind to JESUS is far worse. Do you realize that you can have 20/20 vision… and still not SEE ANYTHING IMPORTANT?

87 Have you ever driven down the road… and not seen a stop sign or a stop light?

88 Have you ever driven down the road… and not seen a stop sign or a stop light?
You were DISTRACTED!

89 In the same way, there are people out there who just don’t see God
In the same way, there are people out there who just don’t see God. Like with the Pharisees, He’s right there in front of them … but they don’t WANT to see Him…

Like with the Pharisees, He’s right there in front of them … but they don’t WANT to see Him… Some people can't find Jesus in the same way that a thief can't find a policeman… Others will do anything to avoid Jesus. I heard of a man baptized into Christ who admitted that he had blocked people on Facebook who talked about Christ. He didn’t want to hear about it!

93 So how do we get to people like that?

94 So how do we get to people like that?
The answer: Sometimes we can’t, but sometimes we can!

95 So how do we get to people like that?
The answer: Sometimes we can’t, but sometimes we can! Our job is to share the Gospel – tell the story of Jesus.

96 So how do we get to people like that?
The answer: Sometimes we can’t, but sometimes we can! Our job is to share the Gospel – tell the story of Jesus. If you KNOW what Jesus has done for you… you’ll not be intimidated. I WAS in SIN and NOW I’m NOT…

97 Helen Keller was both blind and deaf, but because of her courage and determination she became a very famous woman.

98 Helen Keller was both blind and deaf, but because of her courage and determination she became a very famous woman. "I can feel the twinkle of his eye in his handshake."

99 The SPIRITUALLY BLIND of THIS WORLD need TO SENSE, to FEEL THE TWINKLE IN OUR EYE and the JOY IN OUR HEARTS…

100 We need to look folks straight in the eye and SAY IN OUR OWN WAY:
I was blind, and now I can see!
