Persuasive Essay Thesis Set Up: Write thesis—2 options OPTION 1: Laws are not always beneficial in the cases of _________ , __________, & __________. OPTION 2: Laws are always beneficial in the cases of ___________, ____________, & __________. Write Body Paragraph Set-Up: Assertion – first reason, who does it protect or who was it supposed to protect. Proof– give an example of how this now is beneficial/not beneficial Commentary– What would our world be like if we did not have this law? Writing Day Expectations Stay Quiet Focus on your writing Doodle, re-read your pre-writing, do whatever you need to do to get the paper written Listen to music NO TEXTING, SNAPPING, TWEETING

Please write using complete sentences Read/Listen to Act 4 – p. 200 Answer the Act 4 Study Questions as we read **TOMORROW– CRUCIBLE TEST!! You may want to read the summary of the play online. It will be both multiple choice & short answer**

Crucible Test – DO NOT WRITE ON THE TEST!!! Be sure to answer the short answer with all three parts – ASSERTION, PROOF & COMMENTARY When you are finished: Write a Conclusion for your essay -- summarize your paper, restate your thesis, leave the audience with a reason to agree with you Clear your desk…all you need is something to write with.

Read your Thesis statement and body paragraphs to your partner. Does it make sense? Do you need to add anything to clarify it? Add/fix it. Write a conclusion if you have not already done so Write your introduction HOOK – attention grabber Transitional Sentence Thesis Ratiocination: Write down the first word for each of your sentences on a large index card Circle your repeated words Make changes to those sentences so that you are not repeating yourself Find your “to be” verbs– circle them Change your sentences to eliminate half of your “to be” verbs OUTBOX CLEANOUT!! Please get your graded papers out of the outbox (on the bookshelf in the front of the room).
