Print Money, collect taxes, borrow Declare War Set up Federal Courts and impeach Treaties Propose amendments Regulate commerce - trade Post office Weights and measurements Highways Copyright and patents Admit new states Immigration and naturalization

4 Powers Denied to Congress
1) Ex post facto law – after the fact 2) Bill of attainder – punish someone without a trial 3) Writ of habeas corpus – cannot arrest someone unless they have been charged with a crime - invasion and rebellion 4) Cannot grant title of nobility

5 The Senate 100 – 2 from every state (50)
30 years old – US citizen for 9 years 6 year term – no limit Vice President is also the President of the Senate President pro tempore is in charge when VP not there. (longest serving from majority party) Approval powers – treaties and presidential appointments

6 The House of Representatives
435 members – each state has at least one Based on population 25 years old – US citizen for 7 years 2 year term – no limit Speaker of the House Impeach – bring charges Pick President if no one receives a majority of electoral votes.

Representative – Cheri Bustos (D) 17th District

8 Impeachment House impeaches of wrong doing with a 2/3 vote – accused of a crime – they prosecute. Trial – is held in the Senate Chambers with all 100 members of the Senate as Jurors – need 2/3 to find guilty – only removed from office. Judge – The Vice President (President of Senate) is judge in all impeachment trials except in case of the President or himself – then it is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Who else is impeached? Expulsion – House and Senate
