4 Example: A Archaic Indians: (8000 B.C.E-1000B.C.E.)- Second oldest Native American culture in Georgia; nomadic hunters who hunted smaller game; credited with developing grooved axes, fish hooks, and pottery. The territory of an Early Archaic band in Georgia probably was not very large, although a few archaeologists believe it may have coincided with entire river valleys. Various bands probably congregated at certain locations at particular times of the year. There they could socialize, share food, and find mates. They could also exchange stone tools, foods, and other supplies unavailable in their own territory. Archaeologists identify Early Archaic sites by the presence of certain types of stone spear points that usually have notches on the bases. These items have not been found, however, in Georgia. 5 A American Revolution: The American Revolution was the war that divided the colonists and the British Empire. Georgia was one of the 13 original colonies that fought for their freedom from the British government to establish self government and to have representation in the government. Colonies were being taxed to pay for the fallout of the French and Indian wars, while there were no colonial representatives in Parliament. Acts, proclamations, and unfair taxation angered many colonists and while Georgia was not impacted as heavily as colonies like Virginia they did eventually sign the Declaration of Independence and fight in the war. *Georgia Important Battles were the Battle of Kettle Creek and the Siege of Savannah Connection: The Revolutionary War was similar to the Civil War that was fought in America because both wars were insurrections. A primary causes for each war were issues with Governmental Power and individual rights. Example:

6 Example: A The Anaconda Plan: (1865)- Union blockade strategy during the Civil War that blocked Southern ports to limit Confederate imports and exports and slowly weaken the Southern economies. *Georgia Importance Georgia’s port of Savannah was part of the blockade & without trade routes the sale of Georgia’s cash crop cotton was stifled which hurt the economy. Connection: During the cold war the US blockaded Cuba and signed trade embargos to try pressure communist keep communist ideas from expanding and starting a domino effect spreading all over the world. General Winnfield Scott had a plan to blockade and strangle the south of necessary supplies in order to make them surrender more quickly.
