2. Instructions:
The Progress Readout tool helps leaders identify key elements of what should be reported out to others in status update meetings. This tool should be used as a support tool to help you think about what is going right, wrong, support needed, and next steps to build the project dashboard. Encourage the other leaders in the project to complete and send to you or complete the tool together. Think about the big picture of the project and then scale down to the initiative level. This helps you not lose focus of either the macro or micro levels of your project. Progress/Key Accomplishments – It’s important to recognize the work of others and the progress the team is making. Think down to the individual level regarding accomplishments as well as at the process level. Behind every what is a who so be sure you are recognizing both elements. Pitfalls/Issues – Many projects fail because the right issues are not addressed. In addition to listing the pitfalls/issues, ensure everyone on the team has a line of sight on the issues and clarity around the issue. Continue pushing for clarity around the issue and the impact of the issue. Next Steps & Timeframe – In addition to keeping all the plates spinning, think ahead to what the group should be collectively focused on. Again, the key is clarity so that everyone is moving in the same direction. Support/Resources Needed – As the leader of the change, your job is to openly communicate with the team regarding needs. While it may not be your responsibility to secure the resources, your job is to ensure that everyone is forward thinking about needs for project success. In addition to ensuring people are clear on what is needed also confirm people are clear on the risks associated when the support or resources are not provided.
