2 Westminster Shorter Catechism
Question 1. What is the chief end of man? Answer: Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever. John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

3 Finally, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord
Finally, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. 2 Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— 4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence… 7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.

4 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

5 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

6 The Goal 3:1 Finally, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! … It is a safeguard for you. 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! :8 the surpassing greatness of knowing Jesus :8 that I may gain Christ :9 and be found in him :10 I want to know Christ

7 The Confusion :7-8 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ

8 The Confusion :7-8 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ Hebrews 12:1 …let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles

9 The Confusion 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

10 The Confusion 2 Cor 1:8-9 We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. :7-8 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ

11 The Confusion :7-8 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 1 Tim 3:13 Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

12 The Results : Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.  Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.

13 :12 Not that I have already obtained all this
The Results :12 Not that I have already obtained all this 1 Kings 19 3 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life... 4 He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” 5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep.

14 The Results 11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

15 The Results Psalm 73 2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;     I had nearly lost my foothold. 3 For I envied the arrogant     when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 They have no struggles;     their bodies are healthy and strong. 5 They are free from common human burdens;     they are not plagued by human ills… 12 This is what the wicked are like—     always free of care, they go on amassing wealth. 13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure     and have washed my hands in innocence.

16 The Results Psalm 73 16 When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply 17 till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny… 21 When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, 22 I was senseless and ignorant;     I was a brute beast before you… 25 Whom have I in heaven but you?     And earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail,     but God is the strength of my heart     and my portion forever.

17 :16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
The Method : Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus… :16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

18 :16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
The Method : But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus… :16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Eph 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. 1 Thes 5: Rejoice always, pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

19 Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
I want to know Him more You’re going to love Him Eph 1:17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
