3 Rise of Lenin and the Russian Civil War
In 1917, led by Vladmir Lenin, the Bolsheviks soon took power after the Russian revolution immediately turning the government into a communist “dictatorship of the proletariat” and promising : Peace, Land, and Bread , the country erupted into civil war, as many people resisted the new policies of the Czar such as the take over of private land and companies

4 Winning the Russian Civil War
Vladmir Lenin soon hired Leon Trotsky to conscript loyal peasants into a “Red Army” they soon crushed the “Whites” (anti-communist) --- Over 10 Million people died in the conflict Following the war Lenin: Changed the name of the country to the U.S.S.R (Union of Soviet Socialist Republic) Instituted the NEP (New Economic policy) which allowed some private businesses and land ownership

5 Death of Lenin and Rise of Stalin

6 Stalin’s New economic policies
Stalin soon instituted new policies in order to strengthen his power and industrialize Russia: Removed all private property from wealthy farmers, kulaks in the process known as collectivization Created Five year plans to mass produce industrial products Used forced labor camps to meet goals
