1 Technical Drawing Visual Communication of Technical Information

2 Technical Drawing Visual Communication of Technical Information
Overview Review Orthographic projection Multi-view sketches Practice

3 Isometric Projection A standard method of 3-dimentional (3D) drawing that shows similar detail on three adjacent sides of an object.

4 Complete: The final isometric drawing presents three sides and infers information about the other sides Horizon

5 Orthographic Projection
A method of using several plane (2D) drawings to present a 3D object.

6 Example: Side Front Top or Plan

7 In orthographic projection, the combined diagram is known as a three-view.
Front view: the drawing obtained by observing the object in the front (The left-right X-axis is called width; the up-down y-axis is called height.) Side view: the drawing obtained by observing the object from one side (left or right) (The front-back z-axis is called depth.) Top or Plan: the drawing obtained by observing the object from above

13 An example made of cubes:
Side Front Can you build the object? Can you draw an isometric view of the object? Top or Plan

15 Orthographic Practice:
Side Top or Plan Front Isometric Technical Drawing requires presenting 3-D objects in 2-D form AND visualizing 3-D forms from 2-D representations. Complete both worksheets by drawing the orthographic or isometric views. You may want to start by constructing each object from cubes to help in visualizing.

16 Multi-view Sketch A standard set of drawings showing technical details of an object. It consists of 3 2-dimentioal orthographic projections AND an isometric projection.

17 A Simple Example

18 An Example Orthographic Projections PLUS Side Front Isometric
Top or Plan

19 A Better Example Side Front Top Isometric

20 Multi-view Sketch Practice
The Advanced Practice worksheet includes the orthographic drawings of several figures. All have straight edges but none are cubes. Try your hand at drawing the isometric view of each.
