Exam boards are private companies – some owned by foreign firms, e.g. Edexcel owned by Pearson (USA) – some exam marking outsourced to other countries. UK’s four leading educational software companies are owned by Multinational Corporations. Work is subcontracted. E.g. SIMS owned by Capita. Private education business sell services to other countries, e.g. data management, school inspections, teacher training. There is a trend towards international comparisons such as PISA (a global league table of educational standards), and the attempt to ‘borrow’ aspects of other education systems e.g. free schools were originally set up in Sweden. 1-9 Grading system (GCSE) – Imported from Europe
