20 Reflections The first step in changing your academic standing is to reflect on what has held you back. Think about why your GPA is not what it could be.

21 Reflections The first step in changing your academic standing is to reflect on what has held you back. Think about why your GPA is not what it could be. Most of us realize that we need help in certain subjects. What courses have you found difficult? Why do you think these courses were difficult for you?

Most of us realize that we need help in certain subjects. What courses have you found difficult? Why do you think these courses were difficult for you? Many of us have busy lives, and there just isn’t time to get it all done. Have you felt exhausted? Overwhelmed? Disorganized?

Most of us realize that we need help in certain subjects. What courses have you found difficult? Why do you think these courses were difficult for you? Many of us have busy lives, and there just isn’t time to get it all done. Have you felt exhausted? Overwhelmed? Disorganized? Sometimes “life happens,” and college isn’t our primary focus. Did something happen last semester that made completing your class work difficult?

24 Changing It Up If you have identified some of the difficulties you’ve had in being a successful student, it’s time to think about what you could do to make a change. 1. Be specific. What exactly could you do differently? Study one more hour per day? Meet with a tutor for World History? Join a study group one night per week?

What exactly could you do differently? Study one more hour per day? Meet with a tutor for World History? Join a study group one night per week? 2. Be realistic. Given your family and work commitments, your health, your finances, what can you do this semester or next that might change things up?

Given your family and work commitments, your health, your finances, what can you do this semester or next that might change things up? 3. Be incremental. Few people can make drastic changes in their lives quickly. But what small thing can you do today that might improve tomorrow? What can you do next week?
