1 Engineering Excellence
Good morning. My name is Miura. I’m from JGC Corporation, a Japanese EPC contractor and of course a corporate member of fieldbus foundation. It is my great honor to make a presentation in fieldbus Foundation general assembly 2009 here in Yokohama Japan. Today, in this opportunity, I would like to talk about my observation of Foundation fieldbus technology in the current market and also expectation to the future development. October, 2009 H. Miura JGC Corporation

2 JGC office This is a view of Minato Mirai area in Yokohama Japan.
We are here now in Pan Pacific Yokohama Bay hotel. And JGC office, my office, is here. From my office to this hotel, It takes only a few minutes on foot and there was no risk that I may come to this hotel late this morning. So, you may understand the reason why I was selected as a keynote speaker. JGC office

3 Collaboration with Intergraph Questions to Attendees
Contents Introduction to JGC Our Challenges Our Way Forward Collaboration with Intergraph Questions to Attendees These are contents of my presentation. I will talk about my observation and finding of fieldbus technology. Then, I will talk about some specific subject, such as field diagnostics. First, let me explain a little bit about JGC and JGC’s experience of fieldbus technology.

4 JGC Corporation Based in Yokohama Japan
Turnover US$ 4.5 B (in fiscal year 2008) Offices & Subsidiaries 16 in Japan and 33 Overseas Global JGC Manpower 9,200 Feasibility, FEED, EPC, O&M and Business Investment Experience of 20,000 Plants in over 70 Countries These are some facts about JGC. EPC is our core business, and we are expanding our business domains to operation and maintenance, and business investment, especially in oil and gas development. Thus, JGC is now an owner of crude oil well in US, and an owner of utility centers in Middle East. JGC is challenging to expand business areas and looking for growth opportunity. 4

5 Business Areas FPSO Refineries LNG Industrial GTL IGCC/Gasification
Petrochemicals & Chemicals LNG Industrial GTL These are JGC’s major business areas. In addition to traditional process industries such as refining, ………….., we already have experience in CDM, clean draw mechanism, CCS, carbon capture and storage. Medical Facilities & Research Laboratories IGCC/Gasification Gas Processing LR Coal – Upgrade/CWM CDM CCS 5

7 Our Challenges We observed in 2003 to 2004, i.e. Initial stage of
the booming market Very large scale projects being planned Increased workload for EPC’s Existing workflow a constraint Concerns to ; Maintain engineering quality & schedule Enhance engineering capacity Control costs Fieldbus technology provides capex savings, capital expenditure. Since field devices are well assigned in each segment to meet control configuration, there is a drastic reduction in requirement of cable marshalling in equipment room. Naturally, the equipment room can be smaller. Today, by applying blast resistant building, equipment room is a big cost factor. Smaller equipment room surely contributes to capex savings. Fieldbus plug and play concept makes loop continuity testing much easier. With higher reliability of fieldbus products, regulatory PID controls are now moved to field devices. Then, the host can have much spare capacity in its CPU load and it can be used for implementing advanced control, process optimisation, and so on. Engineering innovation was essential

8 Our Challenges Actions for “Engineering of the future” Vision
5 years (2005 to 2009) plan Headed by a dedicated team Participation of all EPC disciplines Verify results through pilot projects Vision Simple - Highly standardized and easy to learn, even fit for new comers Smart – Sophisticated & integrated, reuse of information Proactive - Strategic and early completion of basic design to ease schedule constraint Investing in the future of our business Fieldbus technology provides capex savings, capital expenditure. Since field devices are well assigned in each segment to meet control configuration, there is a drastic reduction in requirement of cable marshalling in equipment room. 9 Our Challenges In applying SPE ;
Integration, especially data correlation among SPPID, SP3D and SPI Inject human intelligence Leverage of “Automation” in 3D Include value added inhouse software Global operation Numerous End-User standards Multi offices Virtual single office Manuals and procedures Education & training Fieldbus technology provides capex savings, capital expenditure. 11 JGC SPE 3D Utility Program & Custom Shape Program 11

12 Activities to establish a new engineering platform
SP3D Evaluation SPE Integration (SPPID, SPI, SP3D w/SPF) Automation for SP3D Pilot Project (SPPID, SPI, SP3D Integration) SPRD-SP3D Spec/Catalog Integration Final SPE Integration Test This Figure shows a brief history of SP3D and SP Enterprise introduction in JGC. . JGC started SP3D and SPEnterprise evaluation from 2006. Pilot project of SP3D using SPE integration was started from middle of 2007 and Today’s Topic Global Workshare Test was done in 2008. 1st Phase of SPRD – SP3D Spec/catalog Interface development was completed early this year and final integration test was completed this April. This year we will start to apply SP3D and SPE Integration in production project using GWC functions.. 1st Production Project Evaluation & Development Test Project SM3D Trial Use Production Project 2006 12

13 Efforts by JGC New workflow under development
Smart interface between disciplines Manhour reduction Designer friendly Contributed to ; Maintain engineering quality & schedule Reduction of manual work & minimize re-work More work with the same people Ready for the future Fieldbus technology provides capex savings, capital expenditure. 14 Our Way Forward Transparency & accountability of engineering
Data integration & management Incorporate JGC intellectual property Life cycle management of information Technology transfer to the next generation Let me talk about my expectation and perspective to future development. These may be specific expectation by all users. We are waiting for Field proven…….. I believe these will come soon. And in the development, fieldbus foundation is requested to surely maintain a basic concept “Open architecture for interoperability”.

15 Collaboration with Intergraph
Requests to Intergraph Coordination among SP suite Improved software performance in use of Mega projects New version to enable updating existing data Announce new release with accurate delivery dates and functional contents This is my last slide. I would like to send you a message. It is quite fundamental to maintain plant operation safe and stable. In addition, we would like to achieve these. Optimum………… 1st goal of development of fieldbus technology especially in field diagnostics and plant asset management could be to achieve “Self-leaning plant”. Knowledge from information will be automatically incorporated into operation and maintenance. That is operational intelligence. The plant of the future is “Do more with less people”. This should not be a dream, but we will make it come true for the next generation.

16 Collaboration with Intergraph
Long term win-win relationship Discussions for SPE roadmap Face-to-face communication Direct contact with focal point and/or right persons Feed back by contractor for phenomena & response time of software under large data volume This is my last slide. I would like to send you a message. It is quite fundamental to maintain plant operation safe and stable. In addition, we would like to achieve these.
