1 Putting Public Health Evidence in Action
Talking Points: Welcome to the Putting Public Health Evidence into Action training workshop. We have designed the training to be interactive, so please stop us at any point to discuss, ask questions, or share examples from your experience. Let’s go over the materials we have provided for you. Open and review the contents of the binder/folder, including extra copies of the activity worksheets (usually in the front folder pocket). Point out the organization of the materials (slides, worksheets, etc.), the glossary, and resource list. (If appropriate) We also have a training evaluation form for you to complete at the beginning and/or end of the workshop. You can find it [indicate if in binder or if will distribute]. Let’s also quickly go over the workshop agenda. Offer a brief overview of the schedule, breaks, logistics, restroom locations, etc. Ask the audience: What questions do you have? Training Objectives Session Objectives Defining Evidence Define evidence-based public health practice Discuss benefits and challenges associated with using evidence Community Needs Assessment Know what types of questions to answer using community assessment Identify sources of secondary and primary data Planning for Evaluation Define different types of evaluation Identify measurable outcomes that are linked to each program objective Talking Points: This is a brief summary of the overall learning objectives of the sessions. Each session will go into more detailed objectives. We will define evidence-based practice and discuss benefits and challenges of using evidence. We will talk about the types of questions community assessments can answer and identify sources data. We’ll discuss different types of evaluation and how to measure outcomes that link to program objectives.
