1 Mrs. Johannsen’s Kindergarten class
Weekly News Nov Reading/Language Arts: Math: ---This week, we will complete our study of numbers to 10 and then begin the study of numbers to 20. We will focus on the numbers this week. How to help at home: Practice counting, reading & writing numbers to 15. Review reading & writing the numbers 0-10. You may have noticed that I have been correcting math papers a little differently lately. I had been taking the papers home to correct after the children had finished. I’ve now started to correct them as the children hand them in. This way, the students are getting more immediate feedback and can make corrections right away while the material is still fresh in their memory. Study of the letter C/c High-frequency word: go (review the words: a, can, I, the, see, like, to, and) Blend and decode words with the letters c, n, t, p, m, s, a, and i. Composing complete sentencesin speaking and in writing. How to help at home: Find objects around your home that begin with the medial letter c. Practice blending words with the letters c, n, t, p, m, s, a, and i. Read, read, read!!! The public library has beginning readers that are just right for kindergarteners. Writing How to help at home: Continue to have your child write words using phonetic spelling. Have your child draw a picture and write a short sentence describing their picture. Don’t expect correct spelling yet. Just make sure that your child writes a letter for each sound he/she hears. Practice writing capital and lower-case C/c Notes & Reminders: Book It reading goals (6 books) are due on or before Thurs. Nov. 30th. If your child’s BOOK IT goals for the month of October have not been completed and returned, please do so ASAP. These are a required assignment. Please let me know if your child needs winter attire. I have some extra coats. I can also get ahold of some boots, hats, and gloves. There will be no parent letter next week due to the short week. Happy Thanksgiving! I am so thankful to be a part of Madison Elementary School and to get the opportunity to work with this wonderful group of students! Please remind your child to wear his/her winter coat, hat, and gloves to school each day. The mornings can be especially chilly and sweatshirts aren’t quite warm enough. On warmer days, it’s best to pack a sweatshirt/jacket for afternoon recess but wear the warmer coat for morning breaks. I am looking for letter stampers with a simple font to use for our literacy centers. If anyone has any that they’d like to part with, I’d be happy to buy them from you. I am also looking for ink pads for the stampers. Washable ink works best for kindergarteners.
