The direction of a line can convey moods or feelings the artist is trying to convey Curved -- gentleness Straight -- directness and clarity Vertical ( tall ) -- dignity Horizontal -- calm and tranquility Diagonal -- action and energy Thick -- strength Thin -- weak or delicate Smooth, rough, soft, dull, shiny -- pleasant or unpleasant; can have a dramatic effect Light or dark Continuous or broken
