2 Background Coastal areas and islands of the Mediterranean are tourism-based economies with important natural and cultural assets. However, they are faced with common challenges: lack of coordinated policies, methods and tools adjusted to their specific needs to support a sustainable economic development ineffective protection of natural and cultural heritage insufficient measures to tackle effects of climate change

3 BLUEMED BLUEMED - Plan/test/coordinate Underwater Museums, Diving Parks and Knowledge Awareness Centres in order to support sustainable and responsible tourism development and promote Blue growth in coastal areas and islands of the Mediterranean Program: Interreg Mediterranean Lead beneficiary: Region Thessaly, Greece Duration: 11/2016 – 10/2019 Budget: € ,00 (DUNEA buget € ,00)

4 BLUEMED BLUEMED aims to support competent government authorities develop strategies, plans and policies for local coastal and island economies in the Mediterranean region in adopting a sustainable and responsible model for tourism development. Main objective: valorisation and protection of underwater natural and cultural heritage in accordance with UNESCO 2001, the raising of public awareness and tourism attractiveness.

7 Results so far: State-of-the-art analysis of marine protected areas, underwater museums and diving parks Assessment of strategies, plans and policies related to National Legal Frameworks for underwater museums and diving parks Guidelines for marine ecosystem’s sustainability and minimum impact of activities Design and development of augmented diving services and technological solutions for Knowledge Awareness Centres

10 Reasearch State – of – the art analysis and benchmarking in MED Underwater Museums and Diving Parks Assessment reports on national/regional governance plans and actions implementing existing legal frameworks and development of existing tourism strategies Study for land planning of KACs

11 Testing photogrammetric recording and detailed documentation of the existing situation at the site 3D model of the archeological site recording marine biodiversity cleaning of the site

12 Knowledge transfer – KAC Cavtat implementation
The goal is to allow tourists to make a virtual tour of the underwater archaeological site, in order to explore its treasures. In particular, a VR System and other multimedia devices allow taking a “virtual diving” of the shipwreck and the surrounding area. The KAC will consist of: Diorama Video area Interactive Artifacts Showcase Virtual Diving System Interactive VR System

13 Knowledge transfer – KAC Cavtat implementation
The diorama will display a short video telling the history of kind of Cavtat shipwreck The Interactiv Artifacts Showcase will display the 3D model of the artefacts related to the underwater archaeological site. In the video area the monito will play a film about the discovery of the wreck and the archaeological field work The Virtua Diving System allow visitors to perform an immersiv experience
