13 Inquiry Example 1 Resident concerned about a proposed mid-rise next to his farmhouse With help from the Local Planning Appeal Support Centre, the resident learned that: The subdivision provided for a mix of housing types, including high density residential, and was in line with provincial and municipal requirements The regional and local official plans have provisions dealing with land use compatibility, buffering, and transition which the resident didn’t feel were properly addressed. 14 Inquiry Example 2 Residents’ group concerned about a proposed hotel and restaurant development in their neighbourhood With help from the Local Planning Appeal Support Centre, the group learned that: The proposal was located within a serviced settlement area earmarked for growth under provincial and municipal plans The proposal met the policies of the official plan related to economic development and tourism A holding provision required the owner to meet conditions that addressed the residents’ concerns The group decided not to appeal. Instead, they will work with the planning department and property owner to find ways to address their concerns. 15 Inquiry Example 3 Residents concerned about plans to develop part of golf course The residents identified issues related to deer habitat, potential groundwater impacts. With help from the Local Planning Appeal Support Centre, the group learned about: which policies of the Provincial Policy Statement and the local official plan relate to their concerns the planning process and next steps The residents are awaiting comments from the municipality and a revised development plan.   Local Planning Appeal Support Centre | LPASC Centre d’assistance pour les appels en matière d’aménagement local | CAAMAL
