How to Stop Bullying?
2
How to Stop Bullying The Victim The Bystander The Bully
3
The Victim - Do Always tell an adult:
Hard to talk about serious things with adults Adults can help put a stop to bullying Tell an adult that you trust and can talk to: Parents Teacher School counselor Coach Nneighbor
4
The Victim - Do So, you've told a grown-up and they haven't done anything TELL SOMEONE ELSE Get another person to go with you for support: A friend A sister A brother
5
The Victim - Do Tell exactly what has happened: Who did the bullying
Where and when it happened How long it's been happening How it's making you feel
6
The Victim - Do Ask the adult what they will do to help stop the bullying It is the adult’s job to help keep you safe Most adults really care about bullying Most will do everything they can to help
7
The Victim - Do Stay in a group
Bullies like to pick on kids who are by themselves a lot It's easier They're more likely to get away it Don’t be an easy "target“ Have others around to help you
8
The Victim - Do Stand up to the person who is bullying you
He might back off Don’t fight Tell the person bullying you that you don't like it and that they should stop Keep it simple Then walk away
9
The Victim - Do If you are being bullied online, don't reply
This may actually make the bullying worse Tell a family member or another adult Block any more communications Only to accept messages from people you know Save evidence of the bullying Print out or save a nasty
10
The Victim – Don’t Think it's your fault - nobody deserves to be bullied Fight back or bully another person back Won't make things any better Might get you into big trouble You want to act better than the bully
11
The Victim – Don’t Keep it to yourself Hope the bullying will go away
It's normal to want to ignore bullying Bullying don't stop until adults and other kids get involved
12
The Victim – Don’t Skip school or avoid clubs or sports
Missing out on school or activities that you enjoy isn't the answer You have a right to be there Think that you're a tattle tale if you tell Telling is NOT tattling It's the right thing to do
13
The Victim – Don’t Hurt yourself
Some kids get so sad and depressed that they may try to hurt themselves They think there is nothing else they can do This definitely isn't the answer Talk with an adult immediately and tell them how you are feeling They can help stop the bullying
14
The Bystander Report the bullying to an adult
It's the right thing to do and it's not tattling Who should you tell? Teacher School counselor or nurse Parents Coach Any adult you feel comfortable talking with
15
The Bystander Ask a friend to go along with you
Tell the adult exactly what happened Who was bullied Who did the bullying Where and when it happened If you're not sure if another kid is being bullied but you think they probably are – it's good to report that, too
16
The Bystander Most adults really care about bullying and will be VERY glad that you told them If you told an adult and you don't think they did anything about the bullying (or if it isn't getting any better), find another adult to tell
17
The Bystander Support someone who is being bullied
Just be there for him or her and be a friend Walk home after school Sitting together on the bus or at lunch Include him or her in school activities Spend some time with him or her Understand what he or she is going through Show that you care about him or her and the problems he or she is facing
18
The Bystander Stand up to the person doing the bullying:
Tell the bully that what he or she is doing is wrong Tell the bully that he or she should stop Keep it simple Get some friends to join you They are more likely to stop if it's not cool Don't bully them back It's not easy to stand up to kids who may be bigger and stronger than you or really popular Be sure to tell an adult
19
The Bully If you are hurting or threatening others in some way
If you are using your size, strength or popularity to do it If you do it repeatedly and often You're probably bullying someone
20
The Bully Hurting and making others feel bad is NEVER cool
Admitting that you are doing things to harm others takes some guts Trying to find out what you should do to change the way you're acting That's a step in the right direction
21
The Bully Think about what you're doing and how it affects others
You may have forgotten what it feels like to be hurt yourself Calling others names Pushing, hitting or stealing is funny Teasing, hitting, keeping others out of a group
22
The Bully So the next time you are about to bully someone:
Put yourself in their shoes Think about how it must make them feel And just don't do it Talk to an adult
