The ability to stand up for what you believe is right and healthy and respond in a very confident and nice way! Experiential Learning Technology

4 HOW people ARE assertive:
They move closer to the other person They look them right in the eyes They say something positive first They respond quickly They are confident but say it nicely They keep a low voice tone They know what they want to say ahead of time They thank them for listening at the end Experiential Learning Technology

5 Model this Life Skill In groups of 2 practice any health-related situation using this skill Experiential Learning Technology

6 The Communication Life Skill
This skill allows you to communicate more effectively by letting them know how you feel and stating what you want/need: I feel…..(share a feeling) When…..(Share the behavior causing your feelings) Because…(how it effects you) Then, either: Would you consider… I’d like… I want… Always thank them afterwards! 7 Model this Life Skill In pairs practice this skill using any health-related situation you know or may be dealing with Experiential Learning Technology

8 The Refusal Life Skill Allows you to say “no” and still keep your friends, stay out of trouble and still have fun! Ask Questions Think about your decision-5 ?’s Is it healthy? Is it safe? Is it legal? Does it respect myself and others? Does it respect the wishes of my parents/guardians? If you answer no to any one of these questions, you probably should NOT do it. If you do anyway, you better be ready for the consequences! State only one consequence and repeat it Sell an alternative Walk away but “leave the door open” Experiential Learning Technology
