LBJ’s unofficial name of legislative bill 1st act passed: Economic Opportunity Act Created Job Corps: trained in skills to help get jobs & move out of poverty VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) created Volunteers help out impoverished communities Head Start program Funds for underprivileged children to get ready for elementary school

Medicare: hospital insurance for people in Social Security system Medicaid: basic medical services to poor & disabled people not part of Social Security Elementary & Secondary Education Act Aid schools in poorer communities Protected Environment & Consumers Immigration increased heavily
