4 …objectives for today Differentia Consulting have been engaged this year in a number of successful upgrade projects:- E9.1 from most releases including World, Xe, ERP8, 8.10, 8.11SP1 The purpose of this presentation is to consolidate and share some of that experience, based on real customer projects, in particular: Technical planning including applications and infrastructure Upgrade tools November 18 Page 4

5 …planning There is no such thing as a standard upgrade!
Every implementation will have some level of customisation Objects, Versions, Overrides, Security, Task Views , interfaces etc EnterpriseOne platform changes - database Upgrade processes vary from release and platform depending on:- Platform and release combinations (database, Unicode etc) Data volumes and quality Levels of customisation Level of changes and affects on business processes Standard Oracle upgrade tools have lots of options to cope with this November 18 Page 5

6 …things to watch out for and consider
Build an upgrade Environment infrastructure Don't use standard Environments (i.e. Development) Make sure all Environments are code-current (especially Pristine) Support for on-going TC in order execute multiple times Check all modified Objects have the correct system codes Custom Objects must be coded with both System Reporting Code (alias SYR) and System Code (alias SY) in the custom range of 55-59 Merge Flags must be set so that the Objects will be marked to be merged into the new release Third-party use of customised System Codes November 18 Page 6

7 …things to watch out for and consider
Effects of the upgrade process on XJDE and ZJDE Versions XJDE Versions nothing merges ZJDE Versions specifications do not merge whilst PO changes do Check/report on Processing Options to understand Running the upgrade Workbenches multiple times Initial Tasks (System, Release) Control Tables (Data Dictionary, Tasks etc) Specification Merges (Central Objects, Versions) Table Conversion (Business Data, reset, temporary tables) Knowledge, understanding and control November 18 Page 7

8 …things to watch out for and consider
Ensure that the upgrade processes run within the available time window Biggest head-ache for many customers Consider an archive and purge strategy prior to release upgrade? If not, temporary table archiving Manage and plan (understand) the Table Conversion Workbench process Avoid any TC duplicate processes (e.g. index generation on large tables) Overall, there are many things to watch out for depending on the release and the platforms that are being upgraded! 11 …tools available Customization Object and Application Configuration Analyzer Available with Tool Release 9.1.2 COA evaluates Objects such as applications, reports, Business Functions and Business Views ACA compares two Environments and reports on the differences in UDCs, Processing Options, and Versions Previous releases (i.e. Xe) require ESUs to evaluate Third-party custom object analysis Change Assistant (updates) Impact Analysis Visual Comparison Tools November 18 Page 11
