Summary “to learn” paragraph 1 Small towns and cities: Around 500 BC approximately 200 small cities in Greece Safe havens (because of walls) The towns consisted of ( = bestaan uit) a temple on a hill (for the god that gave protection) + market square Located near water for trade overseas Culture: Buildings, paintings, literature and statues were an important part of Greek culture Also the Greeks organised games to put the gods in a good mood

Summary “to learn” paragraph 1 Culture: Of all the games the Olympic Games were the most important In honour of Zeus From 776 BC In the town of Olympia Daily life: Society was male-dominated ( = man bepaalde wat gebeurde): only free man fought + head of the family Women stayed at home: housework, watching slaves, nursing the sick + manage the money

Questionaire part 1 Why would you want to drag your ship over the land? It was much quicker to drag the ship overland than to sail around the cost What would pirates do after catching a trading ship?
