2 Technicalities… Labour had 13,948,605 votes
Conservatives had 13,717,538 votes Liberals had 730,556 votes Why did the Conservatives win if Labour had more votes? Labour – 295 seats, Conservatives – 321 seats, Liberals – 6 seats In 1951 the Liberals put up 109 candidates, in 1945 they had put up 475. This left 2 million ex-liberal voters – what impact would this have on the election? Why did they vote for Conservative?
