2 Introduction Game! Set! Match!
Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all ages. You can play singles or doubles. The sport can be played by anyone who can hold a racket, including wheelchair users. Introduction

3 Tennis is a great sport and everybody should try it at least once.”
Opinion Statement

5 Reason #1: It’s Fun Tennis is really fun to learn and play. Playing against other teams can bring out the competitiveness in you. You build a bond with your team and coaches. Tournaments are really fun as well. You spend a whole Saturday playing against a whole bunch of teams. Plus they feed you and you can bring snacks. Every tournament my coach, Coach Wynn, brings Dutch Girl Donuts and they’re really good. If you win tournaments and games you can win a medal or trophy.

6 Reason #2: You can get scholarships
You can get athletic scholarships for playing tennis. Scouts can come watch you play and offer you money based on how good you are and if they like what they see. When my captain Alayah graduated last year, she had multiple full-ride offers because she’s extremely good and nationally ranked. I currently have 1 full ride offer and 2 offers that cover my tuition but I don’t want to play tennis professionally in college.

7 Reason #3: It’s good for your health
Tennis can help you get in shape and stay in shape. I honestly never work out outside of tennis season. I always start the season out of shape and by the end of the season I’ve lost 5-10 pounds and I’m not huffing and puffing all throughout practice. Tennis builds your stamina, improves hand-eye coordination, and improves your muscle tone. It’s also lowers your blood pressure. Tennis is also a non-impact sport so you don’t have to worry about getting hit from all angles. You may occasionally get hit with a tennis ball but you’re not being sacked or tackled like football. It also reduces stress because you can take all your anger out on the court and your opponent in a non-violent way(mostly…)

8 Reason #4: You can make a LOT of money
You can make a LOT of money playing pro tennis. Novak Djokovic has made a total of $107,688,878 in career prize money and $14,138,824 just this year. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez is ranked #100 in male tennis and still has made over $6,000,000 in career prize money and over $800,000 this year. Serena Williams has made $81,758,451 in career prize money and over $7,675,030 this year. *Note: All of this is just prize money for playing. This doesn’t account for endorsements. Serena has made $26 million this year in prize money and endorsements. She’s the highest paid female athlete of 2016.

9 AUSTRALIAN OPEN FRENCH OPEN (ROLAND GARROS) WIMBLEDON US OPEN TOTAL $31.1 million $36 million $41.05 million $46.3 million SINGLES WINNERS $2.73m $2.39 $2.90m $3.5m Runner ups $1.35m $1.14m $1.45 $1.75m Semi-finalists Losers $565,000 $568,000 $725,750 $875,000 Quarter-finalists losers $280,000 $312,565 $362,875 $450,000 4th Round losers $140,000 $170,490 $191,598 $235,000 3rd Round losers $69,000 $113,660 $116,120 2nd Round losers $42,000 $56,830 $72,575 $77,200 1st Round losers $24,000 $28,500 $43,545 $43,300

10 Counter Argument The main reason why people wouldn’t play tennis is because: They think it’s boring. It’s really not, especially when you’re on the court. I thought tennis was boring until I started playing. It’s really fun when you play doubles. The whole time I’m on the court, my partner and I are constantly making jokes and laughing. They’re involved in other activities. Tennis is a really flexible sport. You can play on your own time and work around your schedule. I’m apart of several activities and at one point had a job and still played for Cass. Some employers even let you work around your tennis schedule.

11 Conclusion In conclusion, tennis is a great sport to play. It’s really fun. There’s many scholarship opportunities if you’re really good. AND you can make a lot of money. Even if you don’t play tennis, I encourage everybody to play a sport or join an after school activity.
