MANTLE
OUTER CORE
INNER CORE

4. TWO CRUST TYPES There are two different types of crust.
Continental crust which is what the continents are and what they are moving on. The crust is made of rock - Granite
Oceanic Crust which is what is below the oceans, the oceans are on top of the oceanic crust. The crust is made of rock - Basalt

Continental crust is thicker and oceanic crust BUT oceanic crust is denser than continental crust.

The Earth’s plates move because of convection currents in the mantle.

The plates are broken into different sizes and shapes.
The plates move around the planet because of convection currents in the mantle

9. HOW THE MOVE
The plates move in three major directions with variations in each type. The directions are:
Convergent
Divergent
Transform

10. CONVERGENT Convergent means come together or converge in one spot.
The plates are moving towards each other until they meet.

Oceanic vs Continental – SUBDUCTION!

12. CONVERGENT-SUBDUCTION
Subduction – the Oceanic plate goes below the continental plate due to the density of the Oceanic plate
