2 Early life Clara was born in Oxford, Massachusetts
Clara was born on Christmas day 1821 Parents names were Captain David Barton and Sarah Barton Homeschooled as a child. Did not go to college but went to a private boarding school Never married Her brother fell off the roof of barn and became sick. She cared for him for two years, and that made her want to be a nurse.

Clara was the founder of the American red cross Clara earned the international red cross medal Did you know Clara was so shy one of her class mates asked her a question she fainted? Clara was a teacher and even opened her own school She first became nurse when she was eleven years old

4 Later in Life She retired as president of the Red Cross in 1904, and the age of 83 Death: April 12, 1912 in Glen Echo, Maryland She died at the age of 90 years old She died of tuberculosis

5 In Memory of her Over 38 locations are named in memory of her
19 schools 6 streets 13 other locations (Including Barton crater on the planet Venus!)
