2. LAB PROCEDURE (in a nutshell…)

One change is to add another 330 ohm resistor in parallel with the one shown. This will increase the current flow thru the LED and make it shine brighter! The LED along with the resistance make a shunt type voltage regulator. The forward voltage across the LED is relatively constant with current as the LED conducts. Use the DMM to measure the respective voltages. If time allows, put a 2200 microfarad capacitor from the switch lead/resistor lead junction to power ground. (Always remove power from the circuit when making changes!!!)! Put power back on the circuit. What happens to the LED just as the switch lever is pushed? What happens when the switch lever is released? Time how long it takes for the LED light to diminish. Do this for both resistor configurations. Fill in the worksheet and include it in the lab report.

3. A SIMPLE CIRCUIT LET’S BUILD AND STUDY A SIMPLE CIRCUIT
Find your power supply with leads, prototyping board, wire jumper kit, an LED, a 330 ohm resistor, and a microswitch. A 330 ohm resistor has color bands orange/orange/brown. Talk them thru the circuit assembly and voltage measurements. A procedures handout and worksheet is available as a handout or included in the student packs.
