7 Nouns Proper Nouns Proper nouns are nouns that refer to specific entities. Writers of English capitalize proper nouns like Nebraska, Steve, Harvard, or White House to show their distinction from common nouns. Common Nouns (Singular and plural nouns) Common nouns refer to general, unspecific categories of entities Example: Man, teacher, doctor, dog, cat, house, chair… ABSTRACTIVE NOUN Abstractive Noun is the name of idea, quality and action that is the name of something we can’t touch, see, smell and taste. Example: - Idea: Advice, ambition, wish... - Quality: Goodness, kindness, darkness... - Action: Talking, movement, discussion..

8 Nouns COLLECTIVE NOUN Collective Noun is a name of number or collection of person, thing and animal taken together and spoken as a whole. Example: Army, committee, family, nation, association, community… COMPOUND NOUN Compound Nouns are the nouns that are combined between one word with another word and can make from many kinds of noun, adjective and verb

9 Pronoun Subject Pronouns - I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they function as the subject of a sentence: I live in New York. Object Pronouns - me, you, him, her, it, us, you, them serve as the object of a verb. Give me the book. He told you to come tonight Possessive Pronouns - mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, yours, theirs show that something belongs to someone. That house is mine. Demonstrative Pronouns - this, that, these, those refer to things. 'this' and 'these' refer to something that is near. 'that' and 'those' refer to things that are farther away. This is my house

10 Pronoun Possessive adjectives - my, your, his, her, its, our, your, their are often confused with possessive pronouns. The possessive adjective modifies the noun following it in order to show possession. I'll get my books. Is that your car over there?

11 Verbs A verb is a word which implies action or the doing of something, or it may be defined as a word which affirms, commands or asks a question. -Irregular verb sit-sat Sing-sang -Mood and tense aspect past tense (walk-walked) Present tense (walking) Future tense (will walk) Turn off the fan. (statement) Please turn off the fan (request)
