1 REHUGO for Evidence To support your argument, you must use very specific examples. In order to help you remember the types of evidence you can use, we have an acronym called REHUGO that will help you brainstorm potential evidence and topics. Reading Entertainment/Pop Culture History Universal Truths Government/Current Events Observation and Personal Experience

Fictional Texts: novels, stories, poems Comic Books Political Cartoons (and other cartoons) Credible Blogs Textbooks

3 Entertainment & Pop Culture
Movie Stars, TV Stars Professional Athletes Renowned Writers Musicians Documentaries, Films, Movies, TV shows Plays, Poetry Slams, Performance Art Video Games (maybe even board games) Songs, Albums Fads, Fashions, Trendy Movements & Causes

4 History Remember, history is being “made” all the time – it doesn’t have to be “old.”
Historical dates Historical events Historical movements & causes Historical regimes, rulers, dynasties Historical monuments & tributes Historically famous/impacting speeches

5 Universal Truths* Famous quotes (often from famous people)
Old “wives’ tales” Adages, axioms, sayings, credos, etc. Proverbs Mottos, mission statements Philosophy Psychology * You have to be really careful when you use the universal truths category. You want to avoid being cliché or using cliché phrases in your writing. When you use a universal truth as a point of argument or an example, you are going to discuss the idea behind the saying at length. You are not just dropping the phrase into your writing then moving on.

Politicians and Policies Laws, bills, petitions, etc. Elections News Stories Local, National, and/or Worldly Events Student Government issues and concerns

7 Observations/Personal Experiences
Tendencies you’ve noticed about public (or private) behavior (at concerts, museums, ball games, in libraries, restaurants, church, etc.) Events and happenings in your own life Events and happenings in the lives of people you know Personal goals, ambitions, plans, etc. Personal schedule, routine, agenda, etc.
