2 God is all about family “All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (Gen 12:3, esv) “You have made them members of a royal family. You have made them priests to serve our God and rule on this earth.” (Rev. 5:10, nirv) Shema of Deut. 6 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children

3 Crazy = family Crazy how families get messed up
Crazy how God is committed to making families the method and the mission of His love That’s the picture of Genesis God is committed to these crazy families At worst – immoral, deceitful, broken, murdering At best – awkward, just never looks like what God is trying to make

4 Sometimes what you see in Genesis
Just leaves you wondering what were they thinking

5 Lots of times family just seem a little oblivious

6 Yeah, families leave you wondering
Who did their hair – and how is the puppet really necessary Of course in the bible we see all types of families

7 That gets a little scary too
We see parents make a lot of mistakes

9 And then sometimes you just to have words to describe who these families are

10 Lost touch

11 Because in the end what we see read through genesis
God is about family though at every turn Family isn’t looking pretty. Family we see in Genesis and the Bible is awkward to say the least Like our families favorite game – awkeard family photos

Who He is How He blesses What was broken What He recreates What His final joy is

13 The key to wisdom in life is FAMILY
Not the absence of self but not the worship of self Family is a place for healthy people What will create, heal or grow God’s plan for family? Not the absence of self but not the worship of self

The key to going from a broken family to a blessed family is BECOME PART OF HIS FAMILY FIRST

17 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless “ (Eph 5:25) Live it out Community –who will say God provides (board of supervisors) Family – who will be the emotional leader who will let others start again (Family member and neighbors) Most of all – YOU Regardless of what you have – let it go And live out God’s word not your past The good and the bad Someone who has reversed the curse

The “Ketubah” (& Bride Price) The Bride’s Act of Acceptance The Groom’s gift The Groom’s promise as he departs 1. The Kit TUBAH The groom prepared a Ketubah (or marriage contract) for the bride & her father It is the written promise - One to the bride’s family, one to the groom’s family, one at the synagogue a. It listed details and time of the wedding b. the terms of the Torah for the marriage c. Bride Price (expression of love and compensation to the parents) 2. Bride’s Act of Acceptance: The Cup Of Wine Image of the groom giving His love and His life for her Also represented a blood covenant Her drinking meant they were betrothed They were legally married 3. The Groom’s Gift presentation of a gift by the groom.  He offered it in the presence of at least two witnesses.  As he gave the gift, usually a ring, he said to his intended bride, "Behold you are consecrated unto me [with this ring] according to the laws of Moses and Israel."  4. The Groom’s promise as he departs “I am going to prepare a place for you” and “I will return for when it is ready”

19 The Time Of Separation The Bride Prepared & Pure
Trained in her marriage role A Veil The Bride Time to make herself ready so that she would be pure and beautiful for the wedding b. It was time to be trained in her role in marriage c. Would wear a veil in public to declare she was spoken for and the price had been paid

20 The Time Of Separation 2. The Groom Preparing A Place
The Father’s Approval “Only my father knows” He usually took a year to prepare her new home which often consisted of an addition built onto his own father's house. The Groom’s Father – determined when the groom’s new room was finished If asked the date of his wedding he would reply – “Only my father knows” 3. At the end of the period of separation, the bridegroom came - usually (at night) to take his bride to live with him.
