Program Compliance Requirements
Use SIS to print the ELL Student Verification List For each student: Send a parent notification letter home with information about how the parent should return the letter. Once returned, file in the student's cumulative file Meet with the student and school personnel to determine appropriate accommodations for the student. Complete the accommodations document in SIS. Print the accommodations document out. Give a copy to the STC and file a copy in the student's cumulative record File student work from the month of September or from within 30 days of the student's enrollment in the school. In May, file the WIDA Access Score Reports If the student exits the ESOL program, print ESOL Exit Letters, send one home and file one in the student's cumulative file. Students who are not an ESOL center should have a Waiver of ESOL Services in their cumulative file. If they do not: Contact the student's family and ensure that the family understands that there are no ESOL services available at the child's school. Once the family understands, either send a waiver of services home (file a copy in the cumulative folder with the date the document was sent) or facilitate the student's transfer to the appropriate ESOL center. Consider using a document like this one to organize your compliance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should the ESOL teacher do when a family indicates that they would like to waive ESOL services? Contact Angela or Xiang to get a code for Language Line. Use Language Line to contact the family and confirm that they understand the implications of waiving ESOL services. What will happen during Conference Days in terms of interpretation services? The school will contact Angela or Xiang to assist in assigning an interpreter for conference days. The ESOL teacher is not responsible for arranging for interpreters. What is the FSL's role in Special Education? FSLs no longer participate in Team Meetings. An ESOL teacher should participate in Team Meetings for English Learners with whom they work. FSLs may only do informal native language assessments for students who speak a language that they speak.
