1 The Lord’s Supper Saints around the globe gather every week to partake of the Lord’s Supper. Much effort is made to ensure the local flock partakes in a worthy manner. This lesson: one more effort to accomplish that same end.

2 Who, What, When, Where, How, & Why?
The Lord’s Supper Who, What, When, Where, How, & Why?

3 Who May Partake of the Lord’s Supper?
Should anyone/everyone partake? Jesus instituted it, with His closest disciples. (Cf. Lk. 22:19; Matt. 26:28 Mark 22:24). The remission (forgiveness) of one’s sins is offered to the child of God under the new covenant.

4 Who May Partake of the Lord’s Supper?
One is added to the Lord’s body (His church) when he obeys the conditions set forth to obtain the remission is sins (Acts 2:38, 40-41, 47). Christ died for the church (Acts 20:28; Eph. 5:25-27). Only the Lord’s disciples (members of the Lord’s church) are authorized to partake of the His Supper (Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 1:2; 11:23-26).

5 What is the Lord’s Supper?
What Lord’s Supper is meant to be (1 Cor. 11:17-34). Eat unleavened bread (Matt. 26:17, 26). Drink fruit of the vine (Matt. 26:29). Remember Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins (Matt. 26:28b); instituting new covenant (Matt. 26:28a). A memorial (Luke 22:19; 1 Cor. 11:24); proclamation of the Lord’s death; fellowship in worship (1 Cor. 10:16-17).

6   When/Where to Partake? When He first instituted it, Jesus did not specify an exact time (for when) to partake. He did mention future partaking (Cf. Luke 22:18; Dan. 2:44; Mk. 9:1; Acts 2; Col. 1:13, 4:11; 1 Cor. 15:24). We “proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes” (1Cor. 11:26). We live in the age for which to partake. Day of the week, month, quarter, and/or year for which God specifies?

7   When/Where to Partake? Jesus was raised from the dead “on the first day of the week” (Matt. 28:1-8; Mk. 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-12; Jn. 20:1-8). The church was established on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1), which always occurred on a Sunday (Lev. 23:15-16; Deut. 16:9-12). Christians have subsequently observed the Lord’s Supper regularly (Acts 2:41- 42).

8   When/Where to Partake? Paul left Philippi just after “the Days of Unleavened Bread” (which followed the Jewish Passover, Acts 20:6). Hurrying to get to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 20:16). Yet, he took time to stay seven days in Troas, despite his need to cover several hundred miles. Why?

9   When/Where to Partake? Paul took time to stay seven days in Troas, despite his need to cover several hundred miles. Why? “And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight” (Acts 20:7).

10   When/Where to Partake? One of the principle reasons early disciples assembled on the 1st day of the week (Cf. 1 Cor. 11:17; 12:1, 14:13, 15, 23-26, 16:1-2). It is understood that disciples partook EVERY first day of the week. (There is NO indication that early disciples partook otherwise.) We are authorized to partake of the Lord’s Supper on the 1st day of the week, only.

11 When/Where to Partake? To be done:
When the saints “come together as a church” (1 Cor. 11:18). When the disciples come “together” “to break bread” (Acts 20:7). In other words, we do not have Bible authority to partake the Lord’s Supper outside of the assembly.

12 The Lord’s Supper Baptized Christians are authorized to partake.
It is a memorial, proclamation of the Lord’s death, and a fellowship that we have in worship to God. To be eaten on the 1st day of the week, every week, within the assembly.
