2 Design the shape of your vessel.
Is it an interesting shape? Make sure that it has a Neck and Shoulders. Is it as tall as the table frame. Don’t forget to take into account shrinkage.

3 Ask yourself…. Are you going to demonstrate a sense of movements through lines and repetition of design? How are you incorporating the Elements of Art and Principles of Design in your work?

4 Ask yourself…. Are you going to incorporate lots of textures and design imprinted into your coils? Think about your surface texture, additive and subtractive process.

5 Coil Vessel Ask yourself….
Are you going to incorporate other figures or animals into your coil design?

9 Take out your Ceramics Workbook and sketch the techniques and different types of coils from the video. Take notes on the steps in making a coil vessel. Create sketches for the shape and design of your vessel. Due Date: Before Winter Break

10 Coil Vessel TARGET: I will demonstrate persistence by developing craftsmanship skills in clay by using various methods and approaches in creating coils on a vessel. Success Criteria: Did I create idea sketches and get them approved by the teacher? Did I successfully incorporate the Elements of Art and Principles of Design into my overall design? Did I Create a coil vessel no shorter than 8 inches and no taller than the table frame? Don’t forget to take into account of about 12% shrinkage. Are my coils smoothed out on the interior and on the exterior? Make sure there is shoulders and a neck. If you want to do a decorative coil design and let it show on the outside while still smoothing out the interior. Do not blend the outside. But, make sure that you Blend the entire inside of your Vessel. Did I add a decorative design by adding additive pieces or carve out a design using a variety of surface treatments? Are my coils even and smooth? No cracking or bumps in ropes/coils of clay. Did I Create a variety in the overall shape of the vessel? No cylinders with vertical sides.
