9 Soft Skills Two colleges with established soft skills programs:
Southcentral Workplace Ethics Agreement; Madisonville Personal Effectiveness Skills (PES). Survey of current KCTCS business and industry partners in early spring (731 responses) revealed top twelve essential soft skills. This fall the best practices from current institutions combined with survey data, market research, and the need for scalability to develop faculty-led strategies for insuring soft skills across the curriculum for all students.

10 Expectations of the Southcentral Workplace Ethics Agreement
Common workplace behavioral expectations: Being Present and Punctual; Participate in academic activities; Maintaining Professional behavior. Wide-scale implementations in all classes to ensure a consistent and sustained effort: Faculty agreed to implement in all face-to-face courses taught on campus and to support uniformly; Workplace expectations are incorporated into course expectations; Agreement is placed on all on-campus course syllabi; Students must sign the syllabus.

11 Impact at Southcentral Since Implementation in 2011
GPA, retention and persistence have increased. Loans awarded and Return to Title IV funds has decreased. Morale is high – Voted Best Place to Work in KY, each of the 5 years the program has been in existence. SKYCTC tracks the impact of the Agreement through surveys sent to local employers of recent SKYCTC graduates. SKYCTC programs’ advisory committees members are asked bi-annually about the impact they observe and for any recommended changes. Local businesses have been surveyed about recommendations for changes to the Agreement. Workplace Ethics was created and implemented by faculty. The agreement has been well received by the students who appreciate classes not being interrupted by late-comers, for example. .  They appreciate that the classroom environment is more professional and class is not interrupted by late comers. he faculty.

13 Madisonville Personal Effectiveness Skills Madisonville decided in 2013 that “Madisonville Community College is committed to student success and improving employability of the students. Personal and professional attributes and behaviors are necessary to be successful in college and in the workplace. These skills include, but are not limited to dependability, initiative, integrity, effective oral and written communication, teamwork, attendance, time management, and workplace ethics.” The classroom rubric has been edited and refined while the topics of Communication, Commitment to Learning, Responsibility, and Behavior have remained. Numerous Pilot Projects throughout the past three years have evolved into a standard mandatory rubric for in-person classes. A standard online rubric is being considered and examined. What has remained intact from the beginning is the 10% of the course grade component! This 10% makes it important to students AND faculty!

14 Madisonville Accountability and Results
