Thomson is a world leader in digital video technologies. Serving the global Media & Entertainment industries, the Group is organized in three divisions – Services, Systems and Technology. Core Business revenues 2005 employees in 2006 To broaden offering to our M&E clients, we are leveraging our partnerships to expand geographically in Asia. This ambition means a lot to me. Indeed, I have spent more than 10 years working in Asia for Thomson, more particularly in manufacturing management in Thailand, Singapore and China. Recently, in my previous responsibilities, we closed the deal of the Tubes with an Indian player. I am still very involved in Asia, I am a member of the Board of TCL-multimedia. All this together means that Asia and I, it’s a long story and this is with great passion that I am eager to develop our customer offering in Asia thru new opportunities. Let’s have a look at our major achievements this year in China and India: Broadcast China Strong of 2 “best of show” products awards for both its new Grass Valley K2 media server and Kayak HD line of digital production during the Beijing BIRTV Broadcast show in China last August, Thomson received orders from numerous Chinese TV Channels, reinforcing thereby Thomson’s digital strategy towards Chinese broadcasters for the 2008 Olympic Games. Operating Networks China Thomson received a series of supply and cooperation agreements with cable TV operators in China last August. Thomson will supply digital cable set-top boxes to 3 cable TV operators in China who serve almost 3 million subscribers. A strong footprint in India Thomson signed a strategic agreement with VSNL India (Tata Group) in July 2005 to manage and deliver content to third parties such as broadcasters, network operators and offer end-to-end solutions for digital cinema. India is one of the biggest cinema industry in the world and thereby represents a huge growth area for Thomson. Data on GV products: Kayak HD Digital Vision Mixer: Vision mixers, or switchers, are the control center of a video production, mixing images and graphics to produce the final product. The Kayak HD vision mixer is a state-of-the-art system for high-definition productions. Designed for live production/small corporate studios and editing applications K2 Media Server/Media Client System: The K2 system is a specialized solution that stores digital video and can move it among multiple users via standard computer networks. Launched in August Integrates advanced video compression, storage technology with high-reliability, high-performance IT technologies

Standard “de facto” is existing and answering fast need of market. TECHNOLOGY long term visibility, development and valorisation patent portfolio. Standard is must but again not only one way.

THOMSON leadership in: Move to NEM as convergence of Networks and Medias is core issue for IST industry. European platform is place where main stakeholders agreed on next years Research challenges in ICT. NEM should help speed up standardization and interoperability processes NEM should help defining priorities between Interoperability, Forums, Standardisations NEM should coordinate actions for European test bed and integration platforms NEM could help in promoting new standards
