What is a Catastrophic Event?
Events that are harmful and disastrous. Can include Natural disasters that include: Hurricanes, Floods, and Tornadoes that cause major damage and loss of life

Hurricanes Tropical cyclones Also called typhoons
Fast winds that can reach up to 300 mph The “eye” of the storm is calm and the fast winds around it do the damage

Floods Happen when rainstorm water is not not absorbed
Fast moving water that carries debris Can sweep away buildings, cars, and destroy areas with sediment deposition

Tornadoes Warm and cold air meet and create destructive funnels
Can tear up buildings and anything in their way Winds are very strong and can pick up debris and send them miles away
