2 Expected Family Contribution COA – EFC = Financial Need
What is a FAFSA/WASFA? FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid WASFA stands for Washington Application for State Financial Aid *for students that are not eligible to file the FAFSA due to immigration status Financial Need is determined by Cost of Attendance (Direct and Indirect costs) minus Expected Family Contribution COA – EFC = Financial Need

3 Types of student aid Grants and scholarships (from government, college and private sources - doesn’t need to be repaid) Federal loans (subsidized, unsubsidized and parent plus-must repay) Tax credits, deductions and Federal Work-Study (up to 20 hrs/week) Tuition waivers (discounted tuition, i.e. WUE, Veterans)

4 FSA ID The FSA ID is a legal signature you (and if you are a dependent student one parent/guardian) will use each year you apply for financial aid You must use your name as it appears on your SS card Create your FSA ID at Once your name, Social Security number, and date of birth are verified with the Social Security Administration, you can then use your FSA ID to access these Federal Student Aid Systems: Free Application for Federal Student Aid The National Student Loan Data System StudentLoans.gov My Federal Student Aid

12 Important Dates to Remember:
October 1st-first day to submit FAFSA December 1st-February 15th-priority deadline to submit FAFSA for CBS and many colleges April 13, 2018*-fall quarter Financial Aid Terms and Conditions form due for SCC/SFCC!!!!!! If you don’t meet this deadline you may have to wait until Winter quarter to start

A-apply! You won’t know what you qualify for if you don’t apply! B-budget! Do you know how to manage your money? Keep track of spending! C-communicate! Make sure you are in contact with your school’s financial aid office! Be sure you are checking student portal/ often! Don’t miss deadlines! *I am happy to help you with any paperwork now and once you have graduated from OTA 
