2 The Kabbalah Studying Kabbalah Ancient Wisdom
<kəˈbɑːlə> Ancient Wisdom Studying Kabbalah What – an ancient wisdom that reveals how the universe and life work. Literal meaning: “to receive”. As in, the study of how to receive fulfillment in our lives. Name was applied to the whole range of Jewish mystical activity & penetrates deeper into God’s essence. Why People Study Kabbalah – Understand themselves better, live more fulfilling lives, richer experience of who and what we are here to contribute during the course of our lives. Wants – Be happy, love and be loved, have the best relationships, health, security, the best for our future generations. “Purpose of my life”. Basis of Kabbalistic Wisdom – The Zohar (original instruction manual for life). When/How – Truth of Kabbalah was first given to angels before the world was created by God, supposedly. Still exists today. 2nd time, revealed to Abraham and was part of God’s covenant with him. It was lost after his descendants were enslaved in Egypt. 3rd and final revelation with the Kabbalah was given to Moses on his second time going up Mount Sinai. Where – Possibly the Mesopotamian region because of Judaism; Not applicable Wants Basis of Kabbalistic Wisdom

3 The Torah The five books of Moses The entire Jewish bible A scroll
Existed before the creation of the world Judaism’s most important text What- Contains the first five books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Jewish bible. Written on kosher animal parchment made scrolls that were untouchable, hand-written in Hebrew calligraphy. When/Where/How- In rabbinic literature, Torah was approximately one of the six/seven things created previously before the world was created. Revelation with Moses when going up Mount Sinai. Why- To give an inheritance to the gathering of the Jewish people/Jacob. The Torah’s purpose is to shape Israel into a domain of priests and a holy nation.

4 Collection of rabbinical writings
The Talmud What- It is a collection of rabbinical writings that interpret, explain, and apply the Torah scriptures. Revealed to Moses and preserved orally until written down. “Oral Torah.” Given to Moses in written form with oral commentary. When/Where- Revealed to Moses on Mount Sinai, written between the 2nd and 5th century CE (common era) Why- Since it’s basically the “Oral Torah,” same purpose as Torah Collection of rabbinical writings Oral Torah

5 The Zohar Author was Rabbi Shimeon Yochai Contains mystical discussion
First appeared in Spain in the thirteenth century Its purpose is to bring Light What – Contains mystical discussion like the nature of God origin and the structures of the universe, the nature of souls, sin, redemption, and so on. Who – He lived from 135 C.E. to 170 C.E. Was a student of Rabbi Akiva When/Where – Discovered by Moses de Leon. First appeared in print in Why – For people who already achieved spiritual perception, built so that only those who can achieve a certain spiritual level can benefit from what they read in it.

What- Judaism is a religious tradition with origins dating back four thousand years, located in the eastern region of Canaan. All subjects (The Kabbalah, The Talmud, The Torah, and the Zohar) correlate with Judaism. The Kabbalah- Name was applied to the whole range of Jewish mystical activity & penetrates deeper into God’s essence. The Talmud- The Oral Torah a.k.a. the Jewish Bible, Judaism equals Jewish religion. The Torah- Jewish Bible, Judaism equals the Jewish religion. The Zohar- Basis of Kabbalistic Wisdom
