1 WHAT IS ENERGY? Look around you Is anything moving?
Can you hear, see or feel anything? Energy cannot be created or destroyed Can be saved in various forms Image from clipart

2 TYPES OF ENERGY Energy can be (is) stored or transferred from place to place, or object to object in different ways. There are various kinds of energy. Kinetic Chemical Mechanical Gravitational Sound Radiant Thermal (heat) Electrical eSchoolToday.com

3 Identify where energy is being used in this image Identify what type of energy is being used

4 ELECTRICAL ENERGY Energy can be saved in various forms
Can be stored in form of chemical energy in a battery When connected in a circuit, energy stored in battery is released = electricity

5 SERIES & PARALLEL CIRCUITS
Two types of circuit we can make, called series and parallel. The components in a circuit are joined by wires If there are no branches = series circuit If there are branches = parallel circuit

6 SERIES CIRCUIT If you follow the circuit diagram from one side of the cell to the other, you should pass through all the different components, one after the other, without any branches. If put more lamps into series circuit, lamps will be dimmer than before If lamp breaks or component is disconnected, circuit is broken and circuit will not work Use less wiring than parallel circuits Useful for warning that one of the components in circuit has failed.

7 PARALLEL CIRCUITS If follow the circuit diagram from one side of cell to the other, you can only pass through all the different components if you follow all the branches different components are connected on different branches of the wire if a lamp breaks or a component is disconnected from one parallel wire, the components on different branches keep working lamps stay bright if you add more lamps in parallel. useful if you want everything to work, even if one component has failed This is why our homes are wired up with parallel circuits.

8 Circuit using a Battery
A battery will have two ends: a positive terminal and a negative terminal. If you connect the two terminals with wire, a circuit is formed Electrons will flow through the wire and a current of electricity is produced.
