Essential Questions What is possible when you work through language barriers to communicate effectively with students and families? What could you accomplish if you could easily create digital content – without the help of the photocopier? This matches with Engage section of the Presentation Plan. Say This: "As we work through today's training think about these essential questions." Do This: You may choose to allow audience to read the slide quietly to themselves instead of reading it to them. Raise your hand “Do you experience language barriers with students and families?" Who struggles to organize and collect lesson materials? “Do you use paper-based classroom resources that you wish were digital?" Say This: ”By a show of hands, how many of you struggle with the first question?” “By a show of hands, how many of you struggle with the second question?” Do This: Help the audience understand that they are not alone and that these are universal struggles for teachers. Microsoft Translator Carousel Activity Find a partner or small group.
Locate the questions posted around the room. Use Microsoft Translator to scan each question and translate the text into English. Discuss your answer to the question with your small group. Move on to the next question and repeat the process. This slide matches with the Explain, Explore, Experience section of the Presentation Plan. Say This: ”Now it’s time to experience the Translator app.” “In just a moment, you’ll make your way to one of the posters you see hanging around the room.” “Once you get there, use the app to scan the text and translate it into English.” “Discuss your answer for each translated question with the group.” “When you finish at one poster, move together as a group to another one.” Do This: Circulate throughout the room while teachers use the app to translate the questions. Office Lens Allows users to: Turn print material into digital content.

Using Office Lens 1. Open the Office Lens app. 2. Use the app to take a picture of one of the handouts you received today. 3. Experiment with the editing tools in the top right corner. When you are done, select the checkmark button. 4. Give the file a title. 5. Save the file to your photo library or OneDrive. it to yourself. Say this: "Explore Office Lens by taking a picture of a handout, using the editing tools, adding a title, and saving it to your photo library or OneDrive or ing it to yourself." Using Office Lens 1. With the Office Lens app open, take a photograph of a document or whiteboard. 2. Under the “Save to” list, select Word. 1:37 This slide matches with the Explain, Explore, Experience section of the Presentation Plan Note: These instructions refer to slides 14 – 18. Say this: “We are going to use Office Lens to take a photo of a paper-based document and turn it into an editable, digital Word document.” Do this: Pass out a handout for participants to use, or direct them to use a paper-based document that they have on hand. Walk teachers through the steps shown in the slide directions. Remind them to open the document from their using a laptop (desktop/online version of Word – not mobile app). Circulate and provide support as necessary. Time Frame: 10 minutes (max)
