4 IBMQI Introduction Purpose Manage Noise at Source - “Critical Control”
To provide the Mining Industry Leaders with a consolidated industry-wide strategy for an Industry-wide Buy and Maintain Quiet Initiative (IBMQI) as well as a practical path-forward to execute the strategy Manage Noise at Source - “Critical Control” Noise is an Engineering problem Noise source measurements, after-effect analysis etc. – Occupational Health domain Its cheaper to manage source What is it? A standing decision from mining companies to procure equipment and maintain existing equipment that comply with specific noise emission requirements NOISE Adoption Team 11 November 2018

18 Reporting & Recording Results of Noise Measurements
IBMQI Measurements and Standards Subcommittee on 04 May 2017 workshopped the reporting of “individual pieces of equipment”: Step 1: Group equipment type/model into populations based on Activity Area (e.g. S215 Rockdrills used in Stoping Activity Area as a population). Step 2: Conduct noise samples on 5% of the equipment population, as per Activity Area (e.g. 5 samples for an equipment population of 100 S215 Rockdrills per Activity Area). Step 3: Calculate the Logarithmic Average Noise level, for the equipment population, making use of the Noise Measurement results obtained in Step 2 above. NOISE Adoption Team 11 November 2018

19 Reporting & Recording Results of Noise Measurements
Step 4: Report the Logarithmic Average Noise result from Step 3 above for the equipment population for Noise Milestone Tracking purposes and not according to individual measurement results This Logarithmic Average result of the noise measurements for the population of equipment measured will be used for the reporting of Noise Milestone tracking. Note: Should the Logarithmic Average Noise result for the equipment population be greater or equal to 107dB(A), then the entire S215 Rockdrill population used in the Stoping Activity Area is reported as equipment greater or equal to 107dB(A) This individual piece of equipment within the equipment population should be investigated and not reported as an individual piece of equipment exceeding 107dB(A). Step 5: Investigate any individual noise measurement recorded for the sampled equipment population which was equal to or above the Milestone sound pressure limit of 107dB(A).
