4 What is the internet? Millions of computers linked together that can access information from one another Could be described as a ‘network of networks’ On 29 October 1969, engineers 400 miles in America prepared to exchange data on what was then known as Arpanet. It got the name because it was commissioned by the US Department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency (Arpa). Although we cant really say when the internet was born most people thing that it was 40 years ago, a few days ago, when the first data was sent over THE INTERNET. Interestingly, the first words that were supposed to be typed were “Log On”, but it crashed after the L and O.

6 What equipment is needed?
To access the internet you will need.. A modem is an internal or external computer hardware device that connects your computer to a phone line and, if you wish, to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that can link you to the Internet. Computer Telephone Line Modem/Router

7 What else is needed? Operating System Internet Service Provider (ISP)
An Internet Service Provider, or ISP, is a company that provides access to the internet. You'd normally pay a fixed monthly fee for access to the internet via the ISP. Each ISP will provide a different set of services - some will provide a free service, some will provide faster download speeds, and some will limit the amount you can download from the internet each month.
