6 Numbers of Groups in each region and their contributions Total Contributions Per Group No Year Average R Groups IGs / SBs 2016 1 395 26 26,421 66.89 8 733 57 62,219 84.88 2 998 34 94,880 95.07 9 889 63 21,036 23.66 3 473 22 47,624 100.68 10 183 12 7,650 41.80 4 277 18 42,978 155.16 V 475 7 25,705 54.12 5 532 29 71,238 133.91 O 9,537 6 855 38 89,479 104.65 502 21 60,095 119.71 6312 $558,862 $88.54 The above tables shows the numbers of groups in each region and their contributions in 2016. By showing this information we can work out the average contribution that each group has given in each region.

7 The summary on the previous two slides show: -
56% of our income comes from contributions. Total costs for the year in 2016 were $1,005,069. We have 6312 groups in the world. If our costs stay the same ($1,005,069) and the same proportion of income comes from contributions (56%) we would need $562,839 in contributions to cover those costs. Taking an average that works out at $89.00 per group. That’s an average so it takes account of the fact that some groups will pay a lot more than that and some a lot less. Note: - If we want to rely less on the surplus / profit from sales of OA literature and we want to do the same things to carry the OA message we would have to give more contributions in order to cover our costs.

8 Region 9 contributed $21036 in 2016 from our 889 groups
A full list of R9 contributions can be found on our OA.org website. If your service body has given contributions and they are not listed there, please contact the WSO Region 9 contributed $21036 in 2016 from our 889 groups

9 The average contribution per group in R9 was $23
The average contribution per group in R9 was $23.66 in 2016 from our 889 groups. In round figures that is $24.00

10 Contribution Aims When the basket comes around do we keep in mind how much we might be spending if we were out binging? Do we remember all the money we spent on weight loss / control programs? Does our groups pay for its own expenses out of the basket? When voting how to use group funds, do we keep in mind the things our intergroup, region and world service do to carry the message, and what it costs? Do we make a contribution (beyond the group)? (Overeaters Anonymous Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions page 168 & 169) Does your group have an aim in mind when they consider their contributions beyond the group level? Would that figure of $89 per group per year be unreasonable? What would be a reasonable amount, considering your groups size?

11 Some tools that your OA group might use in your meetings is the 7th Tradition
tent card. The WSO one helps remind members about the priceless gift of Abstinence. The R9 one helps the group keep in mind the costs and the role it plays in OA service.
