4. We invited the NHS Improvement Emergency Care Team for a two day visit in late summer and we have subsequently implemented their recommendations
Integrated hospital discharge: agreed actions with our social services and community colleagues – this works to avoid ‘long stay’ patients getting stuck in hospital when they are medically fit to go home. Monitored through local Urgent Care Board. Improved frailty pathway: we have developed an improved frailty pathway that provides consultant led front door services for our elderly patients supported by acute frailty units at both hospitals Extra capacity: we have made some physical reconfigurations and pathway changes at our hospital Emergency Departments to improve our capacity. Invested approx £3m in upgrades to WMUH A&E Staffing: we have worked to ensure our staffing is matched to our peak periods of demand (ie: 5pm - 10pm) – so achieving the maximum benefit from our superb nurses, doctors and therapists Flu vaccination: we have implemented a comprehensive Flu immunisation programme to ensure as many staff as possible are protected from the effects of influenza
