Been with Radford for almost 11 years
Became an advisor in 2010
Work primarily with new freshman
With all of the issues new students come in with such as transition, first gen, financial concerns, not being sure what they want to do, I became increasingly interested in advising efficiency and technology
I co-created the Advising Website

3. Academic Advising Website www.radford.edu/advising
The AA website was created in 2013.
Our goal was to create a centralized location for students, parents, faculty and advisors to find information for all of the academic advising centers on campus.
The website also contains resources for professional and faculty advisors.

FOCUS 2-very useful for students trying to learn more about themselves as well as strengths and weaknesses.
Generates RU majors based on student answers as well as possible careers.
Great for parallel plans
Students are often limited in their knowledge of careers. This helps to students to learn about possible careers.
It’s getting a new look.
Make sure you look out for s from the Career Center or ask your Career Center Representative about the upcoming changes.

Presentation at 10:30 will go in depth of D2L can be used for advising

11. STARFISH Pre-major Advising Center Starfish
We recently purchased Starfish Connect and Early Alert at the beginning of April
Project sponsors are Dr. Scartelli, Mark Shanley and Danny Kemp
Starfish launch date of August 8th
Implementation is currently underway
There is a representative from every college as well as representation from Career Services, the LARC and Student Affairs

12. Degree Works Student Educational Planner
VPN issue before would not allow students onto the system to update their planner
The Registrar’s Office has been working with Ellucian to get the problem fixed.
Ready to launch for fall semester
Will allow students and advisor to create academic plans and goals within Degree Works
If a student wants to make changes to their major, it will allow students to choose What-If scenarios . Will take the classes they are currently taking and plug them in to the requirements of another major.
Will let a student know they are off track with their current major.

13. Transfer Equivalency Self-Service
is an online tool for prospective students that lets you check your transfer course credits and college credit examination scores.
Quickly see how your classes and test scores will count towards a degree
Students can choose an intended degree, major, and their admitted academic term
Choose the school from which you are transferring from and enter the grade, credits, and term for each course taken OR
Choose the college credit examination you completed and enter your score
You'll receive an unofficial academic degree audit that lists the courses remaining to complete your degree
