5 UNIT 1 The flowers bloom during the spring months. Flowers is the simple subject because it is the noun or pronoun telling what the sentence is about; bloom is the simple predicate because it is the verb indicating what the subject is doing. My brother loves playing baseball with my dad. My brother is the complete subject; loves playing baseball with my dad is the complete predicate.

The chorus sang a beautiful melody. (simple) I planned to go to HersheyPark, but I could not find a ride. (compound) Is this sentence a run-on or fragment? The very big sandwich. This sentence is a fragment because the predicate is missing.

Cabinet is common and singular. Mice is common and plural.
