2 Example 1:  20/20 Muse - to reflect, to meditate in silence
When Bella got home after what seemed like a long and tiring day, she laid down on her bed and mused, absorbed herself in thought, over the events of the day, but she found herself slowly drifting off to sleep.

3 Example 2:  20/20 Herculean – having enormous strength. courage, or size Because he was herculean, having enormous strength, he was a true contender for the Hunger Games, and in the summer of 2105 he proved himself worthy by being named the victor.

4 Example 3:  20/20 Spoonerism – an accidental transposition of words, usually the initial sounds of two or more words. When the usher said, “Let me sew you to your sheet,” I laughed aloud at the spoonerism, the transposition of sounds of two or more words, but I quickly quieted when the other audience members shushed me.

5 Example 4:  16/20 Elysian- blissful, delightful After a lifetime of battles, Odysseus would surely rest in peace at the Elysian fields, for he is a tremendous war hero. (Missing an appositive = -4)

6 Example 5:  16/20 Mercurial- rapid; quick witted, changeable; unpredictable changes in mood. Because Rachel, my best friend, has a mercurial temper, she takes anger management classes every week, yet she still tends to explode with even the smallest provocation. (appositive doesn’t rename the allusion word = -4)

7 Example 6:  8/20 Ambrosial – something exceptionally pleasing to taste or smell. Jeff was shopping to find an ambrosial candle for his mother, but he was banned from the store for stealing. (missing dependent clause with subordinating conjunction = -8 and missing appositive = -4)

8 Example 7:  8/20 Machiavellian – characterized by subtle or unscrupulous cunning, deception Since the company’s CEO knew of the VP’s cunning and sly Machevellian maneuvers, he already had a scheme to get rid of him. (Missing appositive for allusion word = -4 and missing independent clause with coordinating conjunction = -8)

9 Example 8:  4/20 Armagedon – evil; a vast decisive conflict; a battle In modern times, many religious people believe there will be a battle to end this world, a war between good and evil, otherwise known as Armagedon. (simple sentence – missing a dependent clause with subordinating conjunction = -8 and missing another independent clause with coordinating conjunction = -8)
