When the deed was done, and before he was made sensible of its guilt, they paid him.” Mark 14:10 - And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him. Luke 22:4-5 - And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. 5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. Betrayal of Jesus - Matt. 26: Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. 47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. 49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. For Thirty Pieces Of Silver

5 Introduction It Is Likely You Thought Of Judas Iscariot When I Mentioned the Title Mistakes & Accomplishments Of Bible Characters Are Revealed For Our Learning - Romans 15:4 Rom. 15:4 - For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Great servants are not people who live without ever sinning, but people who learn from their mistakes and go on to serve God faithfull. Moses - Ex. 17:26 - smite the rock; Num. 20: Speak to the rock David - 2 Sam. 11, 12 Naaman - 2 Kings 5 - King Saul - 1 Sam. 15 - Paul - Acts 9 Peter - denied Jesus and is remembered as a great apostle. Peter, after denying Jesus, repented and went to work preaching the gospel. Judas - betrayed Jesus and is remembered as a traitor. The difference is, Judas, after betraying Jesus, hung himself. We Can Learn Lessons From Moses, David, Naaman, King Saul, Paul, Peter, even Judas Iscariot For Thirty Pieces Of Silver

6 What Thirty Pieces Of Silver Did and Did Not Buy

7 Thirty Pieces Of Silver Bought…
The Betrayal Of Jesus Not What Jesus Was Worth But, What Judas Was Worth Judas sold-out his loyalty to Jesus - 1 Tim. 6:10 Some Sell-out Their Soul For A Worthless Sinful Pleasure? - Matthew 16:26 Moses remained faithful - Hebrews 11:23-26 Esau sold his birthright - Hebrews 12:16 “profane person” (wicked person) True are the words of Paul in 1 Tim. 6:10 - For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. John 12:1-8 READ - John records Judas’ objection to Mary anointing Jesus and called it a waste. Some have sold their soul (worth more that all the world riches) to - Evil Compassions, Denominationalism, Atheism, Humanism, Adultery, Homosexuality, Matt. 16:26 - For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Heb. 11: By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. 24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. Heb. 12: Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: 15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; 16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. 8 A field to bury strangers
Thirty Pieces Of Silver Bought… A field to bury strangers Judas Threw The Money At The Feet Of The Jewish Council - Matthew 27:3-5 They Would Not Use This Money For The Temple Treasury - Matthew 27:6-8 It was blood money - defiled money They bought a potter’s field to bury strangers Jesus Blood Bought Atonement for the Gentiles (“strangers”) - Ephesians 2:12 Matt. 27:3-5 - Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. 7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. The life is in the blood - (Gen. 9: But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. 5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man -( cf. Lev. 17:11, 14; Duet. 12:23). The Law of Moses prohibited money from sinful behavior to be “brought to the house of the LORD your God for any vowed offering” (Deut. 23:18 - Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God). Eph. 2:12 - That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: For Thirty Pieces Of Silver

9 Redeem Christ from Death
Thirty Pieces Of Silver Could Not… Redeem Christ from Death Judas Did Not Intend His Betrayal To Lead To Christs’ Death Sinners Only See The Immediate Pleasures Sin Brings Consequences… Takes one farther than they intended to go Keeps one longer than they intended to stay Costs more than one is willing to pay We Reap What We Sow Galatians 6:7-9; Job 4:8; Hosea 8:7; 10:12 Romans 8:13; 6:23 Gal. 6:7-9 - Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Job 4:8 - Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. Hosea 8:7 - For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up. 10:12 - Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Rom. 8:13 - For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Rom. 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. For Thirty Pieces Of Silver

10 Concern for the soul of Judas
Thirty Pieces Of Silver Did Not Buy… Concern for the soul of Judas The Jewish Council Did Not Care About Judas’ Soul - Matthew 27:4 These Rulers Were Not Stopped By Judas Returning The Money Evil Doers Do Not Care For Their Souls Or Souls Of Others Must Not Compromise With Evil Ephesians 5:11-13; 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 Proverbs 1:10-19; 6:16-19; 2 John 9-11 Eph. 5: And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. 12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. 13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. 2 Cor. 6: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, Prov. 1: My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. 11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: 12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: 13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: 14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. 17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. 18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. 19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof. Prov. 6: These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. 2 Jn Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. Matthew 26:20-25 Peter Repented - Judas Committed Suicide! Only Obeying The Gospel Can Bring True Peace - John 14:27; Romans 5:1 ***Two men committed sin on the night of Jesus' arrest. Jesus knew what both men would do: One showed remorse and hung himself; the other repented of his sin, confessed his sin to God and was forgiven by the blood shed on the cross. Peter became the first preacher of the gospel, delivering the first gospel sermon on the day of Pentecost. Thirty pieces of silver could not obtain for Judas what Jesus' forgiveness gave to Peter. -Judas would betray him and commit suicide - Matt. 26: Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. 21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? 23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. 24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. 25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said. Likewise also said all the disciples. Matt. 26: Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. 73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. 74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Rom. 5:1 - Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Phil. 4:7 - And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 14 Conclusion There are things thirty pieces of silver did buy
There are things thirty pieces of silver could not buy Neither Judas or the Jewish Council valued the blood of Jesus Let us learn from the mistakes of Judas Iscariot so as not to sell our souls to the devil Conclusion Peter wrote - 1 Pet. 1: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Heb. 10:29 - Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
