1 Gradebook Three Assessment
To recap over the structure and skills needed to complete the answers successfully To answer two questions based on what you have learnt so far in both topics To self assess your answers to understand what went well and what needs to be improved.

2 What will you be doing this lesson?
This lesson is for you to complete your gradebook three and will give you an indication on how you are likely to preform in your final exam, particularly as it is only 16 weeks away. This assessment is a SKILLS based assessment and will be testing your ability to answer both a Tudor extract question AND an America source question. You will have 30 MINUTES on each question (this is 10 minutes more than what you should spend on each source/extract in the exam) and if you finish before the time is up then there is so self assessment tasks for you to complete. Also I am wanting to see you r Tudor and America revision grids as proof that you have attempted some revision over the holidays. Any questions??

3 Recap: Structure and skills
Two of the biggest mistakes we often make is that we get the structure muddled up or we miss out key elements of the question by not following all of the structure. Therefore, to get anywhere out of a level 2 answer you must make sure you include all the components accurately. You are going to be given a series of statements and you will need to decide which question it belongs too. You will need to write your answers on the whiteboard. Tudor Extract America Source Both Could be a game of splat if your class prefer. Questions can be found at end of PowerPoint.

4 The Structure America source question Tudor extract question
Provenance You will need to comment on at least 2/3 of the following; the author, date, purpose, audience, type. You will need to bring in some RELEVANT own knowledge about these different areas You will then need to say whether this makes the source VALUABLE or LIMITED in relation to the question. Tone You will need to say what type of language and tone the author uses (i. e. formal, aggressive, sympathetic, etc) You will then need to try and bring in some own knowledge to say why that would be the case 2 x Arguments You will need to say what the argument is You will need to bring in your own knowledge as to why what they are saying is true or not (you will need to follow this structure for both arguments) Conclusion: Overall, how valuable is it and explain your judgement. Introduction: Outline ALL the key arguments. DON’T just copy or rephrase the source – you need to explain to some degree what it means. Convincing paragraphs Point: What part of the text is convincing? Evidence: Bring in your own knowledge that SUPPORTS what the extract says Explain: why that makes it convincing IN RELATION TO THE QUESTION. (You will need to do this more than once!) Unconvincing paragraphs Point: What part of the text is unconvincing? Evidence: Bring in you own knowledge that CONTRADICTS what the extract says Explain: what does this source make it lesson convincing in relation to the question. Conclusion: Overall, how convincing is it and explain your judgement.

5 You now have 1 hour to complete your gradebook
Please remember to: Write in pen Put your name on the top of every page Number your pages clearly Number your questions clearly Try and leave some space at the end of each question so that comments can be written for feedback Do not talk as it is exam conditions You should spend roughly 30 minutes per a question.

6 Self assessment Once you have completed your work please complete the following tasks in green pen: Go through both questions and underline where you have referred back to the question ACCURATELY and make any changes if needed. Write PEE down the margin where this has been used. (This should be every paragraph in America (not conclusion) and the convincing/unconvincing ones in Tudor) With a highlighter, highlight where you have brought in own knowledge In a different colour to previous task highlight the words, VALUE, VALUABLE, LIMITED, CONVINCING and UNCONVINCING. Put a tick where you have looked at Provence, tone and arguments in your America answer Could how many arguments you have covered in your Tudor introduction Put a star next to all the key arguments that you have covered in both convincing and unconvincing in your Tudor extract. Write down one thing you think you did well in each question or what you have improved on the most since last time AND one thing you still need to work on.

What type of question requires you to have an introduction outlining key arguments? What type of question do you need to comment on value? What type of question are you expected to bring in own knowledge? What type of question are expected to address the question as part of your explanation? What type of question do look at whether a source is convincing or not? What type of question do you need a conclusion? What type of question do you need to comment on the provenance? What type of question do you need to look at limitations? What type of question do you need to look at the arguments? What type of question requires a PEE structure in its paragraphs?
